Ok I know I sound silly being excited by a toaster that toasts but if you'd seen our old toaster you'd be happy for me! The old one wasn't a bad make or ugly but it just had problems. It didn't want to toast to the degree it was set to and only two of the four slots worked. Having a family of four who all love their morning toast there was a bit of a fight for the toaster in the morning. Even the three year old was getting involved in the arguments.
Well we've just moved house and yucky or outdated things have been finding new homes or making their way to the dump. I have to say no matter how much you take there is a feeling of elation when leaving the dump! It's quite therapeutic really.
Any way getting back to the point we went out and bought a matching kettle and toaster set. Debenhams had them on offer and they were £35 each. The best price I had seen so far for the Morphy Richards Accents range. I also had a discount voucher so we got a further 20% off which is never a bad thing. The striking metallic blue colour of this set fit perfectly into our new kitchen which of course was my first concern, I'll worry about how the things work at a later date, he he he! Another bonus was that the kettle is shaped like the old hob top kettles and I love them.
The cord is rather long which is good if the outlet is a fair distance from where you want the toaster. Ours sits very closer so the excess cord is held by the cable storage facility on the rear of the toaster.
The toaster itself is rather idiot proof although I'm sure my mother could make it complicated. The toaster is split into two sides and there is a dial and set of three buttons for each side reading Frozen, Re-heat and Cancel. The dial is numbered to represent how toasty you require your toast to be. I tend to turn the level down if I'm toasting a bagel as they are closer to the heat and toast a bit faster than bread.
Cleaning is not my best friend but I am going to really try in the new house to keep the kitchen nice and tidy. OOOO, check out Mrs. house-proud! Each side of the toaster has a crumb tray to slide out and empty the crumbs that have escaped. Especially if you like everything bagels like me. Only trouble I have with crumb trays (not just with this toaster) is that when you move the toaster away from the wall crumbs start falling out and more comes out when you pull the trays out. It's hardly the end of the world and takes a couple seconds to wipe up so I shouldn't complain.
One of the big warnings with this and other toasters is not to stick anything metal inside it. I caught my husband about to use a fork to get a stuck bit of bread and told him off. It was early morning and he wasn't in the mood so he growled at me, grabbed a chopstick and stabbed the bread, pulled it out smiled and me a wandered off. Can you tell we're not morning people.
