      good looking toaster

When we moved house, I took the opportunity to update some of my kitchen appliances - this included my kettle and toaster. I was going to have a black and white themed kitchen so when I saw the Morphy Richards Accents Range in black, I thought this would look great in my kitchen. I opted for the pyramid style kettle together with this matching four slice toaster. I prefer a four slice toaster as, with a growing family, this is more suited to our needs than a two slice.

THE TOASTER - SPECS & LOOKS

As you will have gathered from my introduction, the majority of my decision to purchase this toaster was down to appearance. It looks stylish and has a certain 'retro' look to it. The main face is black in colour (other colours are available such as red, cream and purple) with silver detailing. The top and sides are stainless steel and a shiny silver in colour. The toaster has a rounded edge which gives it a softer look than angular, harsh edges. On the front, there are six silver oval push buttons - three on either side of the toaster -, two silver levers for pushing the bread down to toast and two silver dials. These are basically two sets of controls so you can operate two slots at a time. The dials control the heat setting - so you can select one to suit you. These range from 1 (coolest) to 9 (warmest). The three silver buttons each have a white symbol next to them to remind you of their function - one is a defrost, one is for reheating and one is to cancel the toast (i.e. pop it up before it does so automatically). The defrost option has a red light next to it which illuminates when this is selected.

Underneath the main body, there are two crumb trays - each cover two slots in the toaster. These have black edgings so blend in with the look of the front of the toaster well. You can simply slide these out to reveal silver metal trays that hold the crumbs.

The toaster is 1800 watts and features cord storage at the back. It retails at around £49.99 although you can sometimes pick up cheaper on offer - I did so at Dunelm when they had a 20% Morphy Richards promotion. It is also currently around £40 on Amazon (October 2013). It also comes with a 2 year manufacturers guarantee.

      USING IT

I found the toaster incredibly easy to set up (just remove packaging, plug in and away you go!). It is also very self explanatory to use too - no need to read the instruction manual for basic toasting although this is helpful to understand all functions available.

I find the slots to be a good size. They are quite wide so comfortably take a thick slice of bread. There is also a variable width function so this is easily adjusted to hold thinner items and thinner slices of bread in place well. The slots also have a high lift function which makes removing smaller items easy - rather than having to tip the toaster and risk scattering crumbs everywhere.

Once I had found the heat setting that suited me, the toast does well and in a good time. It browns evenly and crisps nicely all over. However, it was frustrating experimenting with the various heat settings and the fact that there are nine to choose from made it quite a laborious process! The cooler settings seemed to take forever to brown the toast and the hotter ones brown it very quickly (and cremate it not long after!). I tend to leave mine set on 5 or 6. I find the toaster works well not only on bread but with crumpets, muffins and teacakes and the high lift function means that I can remove these from the toaster easily too, which is a definite bonus!

The crumb trays are easy to remove and empty without creating too much mess. However, I do find that they don't collect all the crumbs created and there are still usually a few left under the toaster on my kitchen worktop after use. The toaster stays cool to the touch at the front too, which is great feature from a safety point of view - especially with a toddler's wandering hands lurking.

      MY OPINION

I do think that this is quite a lot to pay for a toaster (at full RRP) but it looks great in my kitchen and co-ordinates nicely with other items from the range. It is relatively easy to keep clean too - particularly the black sections at the front and back of the toaster. The silver sides wipe over easily too although keeping them as shiny as they were initially is a little more of a challenge - I usually use a stainless steel cleaner and this does the job nicely.

I find the various functions of the toaster useful although I find that the defrost function works very quickly and will quickly crisp the bread - ok if you are then going on to toast but not so good if you were just intending to defrost for use as bread. I like the dials to select the heat settings and these are not only easy to use but they add to the look of the toaster too. They are also stiff enough so as not to be knocked but not so stiff that you struggle to turn them. Having the dual controls also means that we can have 'his and hers' toaster compartments and set the dials separately to our own tastes! Handy because my husband tends to be impatient and have his on a higher heat setting so I don't have to remember to turn it down when I want to use it.

In my experience, the toast does in a good time and it browns very evenly - I have certainly not experienced the burnt crusts and barely warm middle of the bread that I have with other toasters. I have owned this toaster for almost a year now and we use it nearly every day and it has stood up to my use perfectly. It still looks as good as when we first bought it and toasts just as well. I definitely recommend it.

        Great toaster

This is a bit of a fancy toaster. It has a stainless steel body and a black plastic panel for the controls of sliders knobs and buttons, these are also in silver. The silver body is easy to clean just simply give it a wipe with a cloth every now and then.

This toaster is also available in cream which looked good too but would of looked out of place in my kitchen. This is a four slice toaster, it can take fore slices at a time, but the thing I like about it in particular is that you can toast each set of two the way you like them. As there as controls for both sides. There are the usual low, medium and high settings. Along with a reheat function this is a good setting as it prevents waste, when a pice of toast happens to go cold. Instead of throwing it in the bin just pop it back into the toaster and press reheat. The slots are wide enough to cater for the wider slice of bread, this is good as soon toasters have very narrow slots.

The automatic stop function is handy for those times when you set it a little too high. Just simply press the button and the sliders pop up along with the toast preventing it from burning.

This is a great toaster, it looks great and works very well. It costs forty pounds in Argos and in my opinion it's well worth the money.

          An excellent Toaster

When I brought this toaster , I just wanted a toaster that looked OK in my kitchen and most importantly could toast 4 slices of bread at a time. (I love toast ! ) This ticks both of those boxes! It goes perfectly with my kitchen and it can cook 4 slices of bread !

          ***Appearance***
This is a amazing looking toaster. It comes in either Black and Silver as shown in the picture , or cream and Silver which is the one that I have. It has smooth , curved sides and chrome looking buttons and knobs. The metal does not tarnish or get easily scratched which is nice as it just needs a simple wipe to look great!

          ***Cleaning***
This toaster is much easier to clean than previous toaster that I have had. You just simply slide out a tray from the bottom that should have collected all of the crumbs , brush them off , wipe as needed and there you go!

          ***Toasting***
The toaster has 6 heating settings. 1 being least powerful and for the shortest time and 6 the longest cooking time and most powerful. This is on both sides. The is also 3 buttons on each side. One is a reheat button. This gives the bread a very quick blast of heat just enough to make it warm. Very useful if you put your bread on to toast , go to get changed or have a shower , come down and simply reheat it very quickly. The second is a frozen button. You press this if your bread is frozen when you put it in. The third is a cancel button which you press if you think that your bread is done to your liking. The toaster rarely burns the bread and often gives it a golden brown look which I love !

          ***Price***
I brought this toaster for £50 which is quite good for a fashionable 4 piece toaster which toasts to this quality.

          ***Overall***
Overall , an excellent toaster which I would recommended to anyone who want a toaster which looks excellent in any kitchen, has many features , easy to clean and toasts well!

medium to high maintainance toaster which looks amazing in a stylish modern kitchen

My reason for buying this toaster was that it looked great in my kitchen (I admit that when I bought it I read no reviews nor bothered to read the box to check out its'f features) and in this repsect it has performed very well. I bought mine in cream to match my otehr appliances and as I am aiming for a retro look in my kitchen it looks oh so fab! score for looks 10/10
It does however take some cleaning skill. The metal needs to be poliched or it can end up looking old and dowdy and the dials are not the easiest things to clean. The panel at the bottom come sout easily so you can empty crumbs, but the tops of the indside of teh toaster are more troublesome and it needs a good emptying over the bin. So as far as easy to clean goes I would score it a 5/10.
As long as it is kept clean the toaster performs very well and makes lovely, hot toast. Once you find your setting you will experiance little varient. It is really easy to use. There is a function for defrost and reheat which both work as well as you need them to so for function I woudl score it 8/10.
I have had my toaster for 3 years and haven't encountered any problems, not een chnaged a fuse. So for reliability I would score it 9/10
This toaster is obviously not right for everyone- it takes up a large space on your kitchen counter, as there are 4 slices and for the money there are toasters that are better value out there. But if like me you love the retro look then I would say money well spent! People always comment on it when they come into my kitchen (maybe I lead a boring life) but it's true!
