Advantages: Nice stainless steel, 7 settings, extra wide deep slots, reheat button, frozen setting, price
Disadvantages: None
- Why I Bought -
I bought the Sainsbury's 2 Slice Stainless Steel Toaster a year ago as I needed a new toaster but was on a bit of a budget. All the appliances in my kitchen are stainless steel so it was important that my new toaster would look the part. This particular model seemed to tick the boxes when it came to price and appearance.
- The Look -
The toaster is quite simple in design. The main body is made from stainless steel while the base and control panel are black plastic. It looks simple and functional but also rather sleek and modern. It looks quite solid but is actually very light. It is a fairly standard size for a two slice toaster, measuring approximately 20 x 30 x 20cm. The stainless steel looks nice with my other appliances and is easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth.
- The Features -
This 750 watt toaster has seven settings which you control by a little dial. Of course I haven't actually used all seven but it is nice to have the option! One is the lightest toasting setting and then the strength of the toasting increases up to the maximum of seven. I tend to use one for pop tarts and three for toast, crumpets and pitta bread. Both of these settings work perfectly for me. To start toasting you simply pull the sliding handle down, fairly standard really.
As with most toasters these days the toast pops up automatically. This makes it far preferable to toasting things under the grill which has resulted in many a burnt piece of toast for me! There is also a cancel button on the toaster which is handy if you suddenly realise you have been toasting your pop tart on the toast setting, oops!
There is a crumb tray at one end of the toaster. It is easy to slide this out to empty the crumbs and I tend to do this once a week when I give the kitchen a good clean.
A big perk of this toaster is the extra wide slots. I find most things I have tried to toast fit into the slots well and they are also quite deep too, there is nothing worse than a shallow toaster that misses the top of your toast! It is good to know that on the one occasion I managed to shove a slightly misshapen extra thick crumpet into the slot and then pulled the handle down to start toasting, rather than burning the crumpet which was by now mangled in the grill it simply didn't turn on. This is a good safety feature. I think the toaster knew better than I did that the crumpet did not really fit into the slot.
I am definitely a fan of the reheat button as with a baby to look after I am forever making cups of tea and pieces of toast and then forgetting about them.
There is also one sided toasting which is great for bagels and there is a frozen setting which is perfect for toasting bread straight from the freezer.
I would say it does everything I need a toaster to do and lots more besides.
- Price and Availability -
This toaster is available from Sainsbury's either in store or online and is priced at £13.59. I think this is a really good price and considering the features and that it is stainless steel it is definitely a bargain. Also you can collect Nectar points too.
- Would I Recommend? -
I would certainly recommend this toaster to anyone who is on a budget but doesn't want their toaster to look too cheap. I have been very pleased with my purchase.
Summary: A great budget toaster that doesn't look too cheap and does everything I require
