Disadvantages: Crude and basic
£4.47 seems like a ridiculously low price for a toaster but I justified it to myself thus: you're basically heating bread, which you can do under the grill anyway. Why pay over the odds for something you can already do? Also, I couldn't quite understand how one toaster could drastically outperform another- do cheap toasters only warm the bread, or do they place the elements in the wrong place so they always turn the toast to charcoal? I didn't think so...
I'm not a big consumer of toast so I've only been using the toaster about twice a week anyway. I can see now how they could justify the low price tag. Put it at setting 2 and the bread barely changes colour, put it at 3 and you get a faint burnt area at the top and bottom of the slice of of bread. I've never mastered the pull-out bread tray meaning the only way to remove crumbs is to turn the toaster upside down and shake it over the bin. Not ideal... What are the higher settings even for? I asked myself...
It has no setting for bagels or teacakes and no special lever to lift the toast out further. It's very no-frills but at £4.47 can I really afford to complain?
Summary: As basic as the price suggests
