We purchased this from our local Wilkinson store. We werent even searching for a toaster, but it was so cheap , only 5 pounds, that I though it was worth a try as I was fed up with toasting bread on the grill and frequently burning it.
Well two years later it is still making toast. Yes it may not be the most stylish gadget in the kitchen, but it does exactly what I require of it....makes toast.
It has a variable setting for different shades of brown on the toast. I prefere mine lightly toasted so I have it permanently set between 2 and 3. It toast evenly and reasonably quickly. It has a cancel button if you wish to stop the cooking process, and a pull out crumb tray, but I find that once a month or so I have to turn it upside down over the sink to get it fully clean, but thes is true of most toasters.
I cook both brown and white, thin and thick sliced bread with no problem, and occassionally I put crumpets in (but these can be a squeeze to get out again).
For 5 pounds I didnt expect it to last so am extremely happy that two years on I it is still going strong.
I always have a healthy amount of skepticism for cheap technology, the chance that it will break down in weeks or never work at all usually puts me off. However I have been using this toaster for a year now and I can report that it works just as well as the day I bought it and always gets the job done. Additionally its durability extends to being transported as well; I have taken this product on several trips and nothing has ever broken or had to be replaced as a result. The only small gripes I would have with this product is that some pieces of toast are too big for it, and therefore you have to turn them upside down between toastings to get a even finish and you have to force the button up sometimes in order to get your toast out before it burns, which can lead to the toast jumping straight out of the toaster (just place your hand above it to stop this from happening). However if you can put up with these minor inconveniences then this is toaster is cheap, durable and gets the job done with a bit of prompting.
I bought this toaster about a year ago when my £20 one broke on me. I didn't want to get another expensive toaster so I choose this one from Wilko which I'm sure cost less than £10. I am very surprised that it is still working well after all this time. I have had no problems with this toaster and it does exactly the same as my other toaster which cost me double the price. I like the way this is toaster is white and not chrome as the chrome ones leave smudge marks but this keeps very clean and looks just as nice in my kitchen. Just like every toaster this has many different heat settings and a cancel button if you want to pop it earlier.
It's a very basic toaster and you can tell it is cheap however it does work as well as every other toaster I've had! I don't know how long it's going to last so I cannot comment on durability but reliability it's done we'll so far and I use it most days.
When we first moved into our house there were certain things we inherited and some stuff we bought but as we were on a tight budget we were looking for the best value items. We were quite shocked but very pleased to see the price of some of the Wilkinson's 'Value' items and bought a few bits and pieces from there for our new home. One of the items we bought was a toaster, priced at just £5 it's a real bargain, especially as I wouldn't really trust myself doing toast under the grill every morning.
The toaster comes in a bright yellow, simply designed box, the same as all the other value products which Wilkinson's sells. The toaster is really simple to use, it's just a case of unpacking it, plugging it in and you're ready to toast. It does come with a small instruction manual but it's only a basic toaster so I haven't found a need to read any instructions it's all pretty straight forward. The toaster itself as I said is very basic and therefore has a simple design, with just the plunger to put your toast down, a browning dial and a cancel button. The toaster also has a crumb catching tray which I wouldn't expect for such a cheap toaster but it's a welcome advantage.
Now I like everything in my kitchen to be all lovely and matching and this was a problem when buying cheaper brands. I do prefer stainless steel and as I replace appliances this is what I now opt for although these are often at a premium price and for a fiver I can't really complain. The toaster works fine, it's only needed for a basic function and it does it well. The dial is easy to change so you can have your toast just how you like and the cancel function means that if you think your toast is done enough you can pop it up early. The crumb tray makes cleaning the toaster early and means there isn't crumbs all over your work surface, to clean the exterior of the toaster a quick wipe is all that's needed.
As with all electrical this products this toaster comes with a one year guarantee, and in my opinion for a fiver a years worth of use is more than adequate. Since moving into my own home I've replaced this toaster twice (I'm now on my third) with a more expensive, better looking model and they always seems to break. My Wilkinson's Value toaster has stood the test of time and is my go to item when I'm my other toasters have broken on me.
Overall, I really recommend this product, yes it's basic but for a fiver there's not a lot more you could ask for- at the end of the day it's a toaster and it toasts. The only downside for me is the look, it looks fine in my kitchen but I just am not a huge fan of white appliances but that's just a personal thing. A great value buy.
Sometimes you just need a £5 small appliance to get you through and this was the chosen one. To me all toasters are the same, its only the colour that changes.
This particular toaster comes from the wilko basic range with a nice yellow box. Wilkos sell a whole host of items for the home and garden from benches to paint and kettles to pens.
The toaster itself is the basic white with short cord and 4 legs to raise it slightly off the worktop. It is a nice small size which fits neatly in a corner next to my microwave.
The toaster has two slots for 2 slices of toast, crumpets, teacake etc which are quite spacious not getting stuck or crumpled. Which is sufficient for us as a couple. There is the slider at the side, cancel button and setting tuner. In all fairness why we need a cremation setting I will never know but I find 2 works well. The only thing I actually use 5 for is those toast me pockets and thats not toast!
The toaster is cool touch being plastic on the outer ideal maybe with children around to prevent burns. There is a crumb tray for easier cleaning of the machine this is also ideal saving me tipping the toaster over the bin.
So far the toaster is behaving as it should and at such a bargain price, there is a 12 month guarantee should anything go wrong.

Like most other households we always like to have a functioning toaster. However we are not that fussy on style or design, and are quite happy with the cheaper white toasters form various brands, so long as they work! Our old toaster had been working fine, but then developed a 'flash' when the toast popped up, so we thought it was safer to dispose of it.
I would probably have bought a new toaster online at Tesco, but my son was in town and came back with this Wilko toaster.
As with all cheaper toasters it is just plain white, accommodates two slices of bread and has a pull out crumb tray.
The controls on this toaster are also basic - there is the pull down handle to drop the bread into the toaster, a turn knob to set how brown you want the toast and also a 'cancel' button to get the toast to pop up before the end of the process if you wish.
So the controls are basic - but that is all you really need.
We often have toast, either with breakfast, as a snack on its own or for a quick meal like beans or cheese on toast.
My son likes his toast really brown and toasted so turns the knob to the fullest setting. I however only like it gently browned so have to turn the know back about half way - this should not be a problem but the little mark that shows where the level is is only in white and not very easy to see - this is really my only complaint - however it is slightly raised so now I just feel for it when turning the knob and it works just fine.
It is of course simple and easy to use - which is what we like.
A toaster for two slices is quite sufficient for our family as we often end up doing toast at different times anyway, and not a huge pile all in one go.
This is a neat and compact little toaster and a quick wipe over is all that is needed to keep it looking like new.
For the price this toaster works really well and it does have a 12 month guarantee anyway if you do have any problems.
