Advantages: Very well made
Disadvantages: Expensive and they turn your respiratory system into a tar pit.
First of all, I'd just like to say one thing. Smoking is bad. It's as addictive heroine-flavoured scratch cards and just as expensive, plus it makes you smell like a walking chimney. But after all, life is too short to worry about such things, and I personally love the idea of killing myself with government-taxed goods. Please don't ask why.
When I started smoking, probably about a year ago now, I have to admit that I did throw myself in the deep end. The first pack I ever bought was a pack of Marlboro Red's, which any experienced smoker will tell you are the equivalent of smoking asphalt shavings. However, this did have the advantage of training my lungs to handle pretty much anything, so I can smoke even the harshest brands without suffering a coughing fit.
Marlboro Red's are actually very well made cigarettes, despite what you may have heard about glass fibres in filters. They are made from high quality paper and filters, along with a generous amount of high-end tobacco, which is tightly packed but enough so to restrict air flow through the cigarette, and smoulders slowly when light. They can be bought in a rather stylish packet, either tens or twenties, which is well constructed enough not to be crushed flat in your pocket. Unfortunately, this is where we hit the problem. Marlboro's aren't exactly chemical, just very harsh, and after a few you often find your voice talking on the same timbre as a cement mixer. They can also make you very light-headed, and sometimes even nauseous, although the sensation quickly passes.
Although Marlboro Reds are a very well made brand of cigarette they are just too strong, and at nearly £6 a twenty pack is a lot of money just to resurface you're lungs. Nowadays I smoke much smoother brands, such as Richmond King Size, which are a lot cheaper and much more enjoyable. Of course if someone offers me one I'll still accept, but I have no intention of buying my own anytime soon.
Remember, smoking is bad, m'kay?
Summary: Should be avoided by anyone with lungs, so everyone.
