Advantages: Attractive package, Smooth flavor, Well blended tobaccos

Disadvantages: Harmful to health, Expensive

I have smoked for six years - since I was fourteen years of age, much too young to drive a car but obviously old enough to give myself a good case of lung cancer.

For several years, I smoked Marlboro Reds. They cost me less than three dollars per 20-cigarette pack back in those days - a very reasonable price for such a great product!

Philip Morris has done a great job, in that he has created a premium cigarette that is not too harsh (like Camels), but not wimpy like Virginia Slims. It is a shorter-lengthed cigarette than the 100s, with a normal-sized brown filter and the "Marlboro" logo stamped on the end of the white paper.

The tobacco is rich and addictive, probably because it has over four thousand chemicals and additives - including, but not limited to:
Ammonia
Chocolate
Formaldehyde
Extra nicotine

These are integrated with the "plain old tobacco" to give it a richer flavor, and to keep smokers addicted. Personally, I think it also enhances the flavor, as plain cigarettes just do not taste right. The additives and blended tobaccos in Marlboro Reds also give it a very unique flavor: You can't really compare this cigarette to any of its premium counterparts such as Lucky Strikes or Camels.

I smoked about two packs per day, so my cost for this product was considerable. But, what attracted me to this cigarette in the beginning?

First, EVERYBODY smokes Marlboro Reds here in Texas. It's the cigarette that youth first pick up when they start smoking, and many of them stay with this brand until they either quit or, unfortunately, die three decades later. You cannot walk more than a block in my town without seeing a young adult smoking one of these cigarettes.

Also, ADVERTISING is a key factor. I live in rodeo country: The Marlboro Man is the most famous cowboy around, and is prominently displayed on billboards and in magazines. Every child in this town k
nows who he is, and what he looks like - sort of like Mickey Mouse, but with more severe consequences!

Obviously we cannot forget PACKAGING in the list of appealing images that Marlboro Reds possess. The red box top is quite attractive, with symmetrical lines and slashes going downward to catch the eye. At the junction in the front center portion of the package is the elegant-looking Marlboro crest - a tiny golden symbol that subconsciously makes smokers feel like important people versus pathetic addicts.

The rest of the package is a plain white, with the Philip Morris label as well as Surgeon General's warnings and other information regarding the cigarette. Marlboro Reds are available in a hard pack - a fairly thick cardboard box lined with gold foil - or a soft pack (thin paper wrapped with cellophane).

Either package costs the same amount of money here in Texas, so the choice is entirely up to you. Currently they cost about $3.99 per pack U.S. funds, and something like $37.00 per carton (ten packs, also U.S. funds). So, smoking is quite the expensive habit here in the United States thanks to several tax hikes in recent history. Many people either cannot afford to smoke anymore, so they either quit or find a way to continue satisfying the long, low call of desire that Marlboro and other cigarettes instill in addicted folks such as myself.

All in all, I really enjoyed everything about Marlboros - hey, they didn't even make me cough when I smoked them, unlike some harsher, stronger brands! I definitely recommend them to anybody who is 1. of legal age to smoke and 2. will smoke anyway regardless of the warnings and sarcasm that I have littered throughout this opinion.

**NOTE: Here in the United States, serious steps are being taken to squash smoking. There are tougher laws, higher taxes, and other deterrents. Hey, we can't even smoke in restaurants anymore! So, all in all, it will probably become tab
oo at some point in our nation's future, though I don't see it happening anytime soon. In the meantime, please remember that smoking isn't healthy: If NOTHING else, it leaves you short of breath, which ruins any sporting activities that you used to enjoy. There are worse consequences but, since I smoke myself, I am not about to preach to everybody.

what i want to know is that if you look at a pack of Marlboro, it says '20 class a cigarettes'. so what are class b cigarettes? i am a smoker but i've always detested marlboro, even if i run out and i am having a nicotine fit, i won't accept a marlboro - just don't like them. i remeber when i was young there was this woman that we knew, her house smelt funny because she smoke them.
