Advantages: Very very cheap
Disadvantages: Not easy to get hold of
Better known in the Western world for their sponsorship of the Benetton F1 racing team, Mild Seven cigarettes are in fact reputedly the third widest smoked cigarette in the world (behind Marlboro and Camel). Manufactured originally in Tokyo, by Japanese Tobacco Inc. they are now also manufactured under license in Switzerland for the growing European Market.(AMENDMENT: I have just received my latest supply, and bizarrely, although purchased in China, were actually made under license in the UK. Maybe they plan to sell here?) Rarely seen in UK tobacconists, these cigarettes are readily available in Duty Free shops world-wide, although particularly if your journey takes you Eastwards. There are 2 major brands of Mild Seven; The Standard, and the Lights. Both are pitched at the Marlboro market, being of similar tar and nicotine levels to their American counterparts. The filters of Mild Sevens contain an 'activated charcoal' compound which apparently is more effective at removing impurities than standard fibre filters. (Activated charcoal is the main thing used in my 'Trainer Tamer Odor Eaters so it must be good!) The standard Sevens are a very similar smoke to Marlboro, with a similar powerful hit on the throat, and a strong tobacco taste, but the Lights bear no resemblance to any other brand I have smoked. The tobacco is quite loosely packed, allowing a smoother inhalation, yet the nicotine hit is strong enough to sate your addiction. The cigarettes have a unique appearance. The boxes are predominantly white with a blue stripe (Navy - standard, Sky - Lights). The cigarettes themselves are all white, including the filter cover, prompting many people to enquire whether I have switched to menthol. My cigarettes of choice prior to discovering these were Regal King Size and these are not dissimilar, and I do enjoy returning to Regals if I have a glitch in my supply chain. What I do not enjoy returnin
g to is paying £4.30 a packet. The cheapest I have ever seen these cigarettes is £3.98 for 200 at Dubai duty free, but it is very rare for me to have to pay more than £7-8. I originally started smoking these cigarettes when a friend visited Japan on business and brought some back. Since then, I have managed to maintain a regular supply from friends, family, and business associates who have travelled to the East. If you are not lucky enough to have any contacts who could bring some back it may be worth trying some from a specialist tobacconist.

RedShadow - 04/07/04 Mild Seven is my cigarette of choice, I live in Asia so they are readily avilable and are very popular. The thing I like about them most is the smoke smells much better than Marlboros. |
