Advantages: Good, natural taste, No additives, so less harmful, A luxury brand

Disadvantages: Not so satisfying as the blues, More difficult to draw upon, Price and availability

American Spirit cigarettes are made from natural tobacco alone, which means they contain none of the usual chemicals in most cigarettes, and they also don't use reprocessed tobacco leftovers (think the tobacco equivalent of mechanically-recovered meat). So, in theory, their quality should be above par. But what are they like in practice?

Well, they're certainly not bad. They do have a natural taste; it's difficult to describe the chemical flavour of most cigarettes other than as something that tastes industrial and unpleasent. Certainly they take some getting used to, but on the whole it's worthwhile. The only problem is that they don't seem anywhere near as strong as most cigarettes, and aren't so satisfying; this is precisely because of the lack of chemicals, the very point of which is to increase the absorbtion of nicotine into the body and make them feel stronger. For this reason, I should not recommend the lights as much as the regular blue brand, which feel much more similar to any other brand (but retain the advantage of tasting better).

The Lights, however, contain 5mg tar and 0.6mg nicotine; in actual fact the tobacco has in it as much tar and nicotine as the regular ones do, the difference being that they use more porous paper and a denser plug (which is in itself a disadvantage as it takes a little more effort to draw on them). They're also more expensive than most cigarettes, at a luxury price of somewhere around £5.10 on average. They're also not all that widely available, but any good tobacconist or specialist bottle shop should be able to supply them.
