Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Many
Most smokers already know but ignore the serious risks involved in smoking.
I don’t think the habit is likely to be stopped by health warnings alone.
Many smokers already know how much medical treatment is required by people in hospital due to smoking related illness.
So you may ask what’s the sense in smoking.
It doesn't make sense to me at all.
I don’t personally think that the physically addictive properties of nicotine are the problem.
It’s the personality of the user that causes the addiction.
I’m not suggesting that smokers are on the same moral level as drug abusers, alcoholics, gamblers etc but I think the addictive personality element is the same.
If you tried to convince a drug abuser it doesn’t make sense I am sure they could give some seemingly good benefits of why we should all be taking a regular supply of drugs as well.
It’s because they have convinced themselves drugs are ok because they enjoy the effects.
An earlier reviewer had said that smokers have the right to ask for public facilities where they can smoke.
I think if smokers want special places to smoke, smokers should pay for them.
I'm seldom on the side of extra taxes but the idea of a licence to smoke in public comes to mind.
I say wake up and smell the coffee, think about smoking sensibly.
If you want to smoke carry on its only the people who are still alive when it kills you that will need to worry.
Sorry if this offends anyone it’s only my point of view and not intended to irritate.
Summary: Only you can decide what to do

- 13/11/06 Never having smoked I am not in a position to talk about the addictive side of nicotine, except that I expect that I underestimate the effect usually. However I do agree that in the end it comes down to how much they want to give up. If they want it, then they can do it. JPEG |
