Advantages: You'll probably smoke less

Disadvantages: Takes a little time to learn to roll a nice smoke

If you're at all concerned by your dependence on cigarettes, buying some hand rolling tobacco really might be the best way to go. It tends to be substantially less treated with addictive chemicals and flavourings than the factory manufactured smokes, and this goes for the well known rolling paper brands as well, which are less invested in making sure it burns as quickly as possible.

I know, I was cynical about this myself, but experience tells me I was wrong to doubt those who told me how drastically making the switch would reduce nicotine cravings. Now I just have a smoke occasionally when I want one, usually with a beer, and not always then, and I frequently go days and even weeks at a time without even thinking about when the last time was I had one. This is not something I would have envisaged as possible.

Unlike with packs of ten or twenty, you'll feel no particular compulsion to smoke out whatever is left in the box at the end of the night, so you'll smoke less as a consequence of this too, and will therefore need to head to the tobacconists with less frequency and at less cost.

Best of all you can buy loads of the stuff in large packets, and not only that, get a friend to buy you a whole stash from an airport duty free shop, and you'll have plenty to last you for months on end, at about a third of the price you'd pay in the supermarket.

You can buy small filters to put inside your roll ups if you wish, and there are even liquorish papers to mask the taste if you prefer. It's quite a pleasant activity to craft something for yourself, and you will quickly become adept at rolling if you can't already, especially as smoking is after all quite a social activity, even more so now that everybody has to sit outside the pub, so plenty of people will be willing to help you figure out the basics. Rolling will slow that reflexive instinct to chain smoke, and you won't mind at all.

In no time at all you'll either wish you'd been rolling away for years, or feel like you've put yourself in a really strong position to quit entirely.

Summary: Will make you appreciate how much rubbish they put in the big brand names

good review. I used to love to use a little hand held machine to roll up the cigarette. actually this is like riding a bike if you have ever used one of those machines you never forget how it works x
