Advantages: you know dont have to inhale second hand smoke in public places

Disadvantages: you are alone most of the time if you dont smoke while friends are outside

The smoking ban was brought into law on July 1st 2007 This means that you are no longer able to smoke in any public place that is indoors. This caused a major stir across the nation as people thought it was their choice and no one else's. All public places must now have an outside designated smoking area outside where people can go.

I am not a smoker myself but I do think this ban was a bit unfair for many reasons. I totally agree with the fact that non-smokers should not have to breath in exhaled smoke but you will find that none smokers will go out into the designated smoking area anyway to avoid being left inside alone. I have been out with my friends on several occasions where I have been the only none smoker in our group so I was given the choice to either go outsides with my friends in the pouring rain or stay inside and be a "Billy no mates" . I do like it that I can now go out and return without smelling like an ash tray but I find I now spend less time with my friends.

Public places must have lost so much money bringing this "no smoking" ban has been enforced , as smokers will now spend a lot of their time outside rather than buying drinks etc, for another example, I got to play bingo at mecca every so often and at half time they usually play board games where you could win quite a lot of money but now since the smoking ban, people seem to want their breaks outside smoking and you are left playing bingo alone as all your friends are outside and the money will be rubbish.

Anyone found smoking in a public place will now be fined xxx . I read in the paper about a man who owned his own pub which had it's own regulars and all of them smoked. The man did not want to enforce the smoking ban in his bar as he would loose out on money. The man still let people smoke even tough the "smoking ban" had been enforced. This resulted in the man being fined an considerable amount of money. To me this seemed unfair as this was the man's own property. I suppose everyone has to work along side the same system though and what's good enough for one has to be for others.

I have mixed feelings about the smoking ban. I'm not for it and I'm not against it either.

Summary: I can't decode if I'm with or for "the smoking ban" hmmmmm

My dad runs a pub, and were it not for the food and events side of the business, he would have gone under following the smoking ban.

I agree with the social things, have missed out on many nights on the dancefloor.
