Advantages: What can be good about it?
Disadvantages: Making my child ill, expensive, unsociable
Reading these reviews, I was expectibg to find almost everyone in agreement that smoking is evil, the ban is a good thing, and smoking should be banned altogether. However, it's surprising how few people are actually going that route and saying that outright. Whether a lot of these people are smokers themselves, and are saying that the smoking ban should never have been introduced as it is directly affecting there socialising is another matter, and one that some of the posters haven't made clear.
I'm a non-smoker myself, and aside from the odd one during my teenage years to try and be 'cool', I never have been. And with the current credit climate being as it is, I have never been more grateful that I didn't let this habit suck me in.
My child at the moment seems to be having a direct reaction to being around smoke. She has always been a fit healthy little girl, and 2 years ago, as she turned 3, I went back to work full time. Her care went from being in a smoke free home, to a house where two people smoked throughout the day. As a result, she has had around 5 chest infections since september, and we are having to look into the possiblity of asthma. I am doing what I can to reduce her contact with smoke, but my choices are extremely limited-mainly give up work.
This to me is the biggest incentive anyone would need to give up smoking or not start altogether. Forget the cost, the complaining that smokers are seen as outcasts and made to stand outside in the cold and the rain- if you are old enough to choose to smoke, surely you are old enough to deal with the consequences? Either shut up and deal with it or quit, there's enough help out there for you.
In my eyes, the people who are suffering are the ones who are young and blameless in the situation.
Summary: Put the prices up to a tenner a packet and see if everyones addicted then!

- 03/01/09 I was on the motorway the other day, remarking how many people were smoking in their cars with children in the back. They should be had on child abuse charges, if you ask me. |
