Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Lots
The other day I was walking a long the road and I saw a young girl who was heavily pregnant light up a cigarette. I was mortified at the sight of this and just wanted to fly across the path and take it out of her mouth. My mother-in-law smoked when she was pregnant with all three of her children and they all suffer from 'Croup' and Asthma. I'm not sure if thats directly linked to her smoking but they don't recommend that you don't do it whilst pregnant for no reason.
As much as I understand that smoking is extremely addictive I think the action of smoking in pregnancy is so irresponsible. As we all know smoking can kill a person so imagine what that unborn child is taking in even before they've entered this world? Some may argue about the addiction side of it but I have no time for that. I was addicted to starving myself and making myself sick so when I started getting fat because of my pregnancies I fought like mad in my head to try and not to go back down the anorexia route. I didn't because I put the unborn child inside of me before my own feelings. It's as simple as that.
My children are 2 and 6 months old now and I never take them anywhere that I know is going to be smoky. My nan smokes like a train so I don't go to her house. She wouldn't smoke around my boys but even when she stands by the front door, you can see the smoke being blown back into the house and you can smell it too. When she comes to my house she doesn't have a cigarette and if she can't cope any longer then she goes outside into the back garden. This may sound extreme to some people but why should my boys and myself have to breath in her poison? It's worse if you passive smoke.
The habit of smoking is something I absolutely dispise and I am very greatful that I didn't take it up myself. I know there are worse things in life but I will do anything I can to protect my boys from having to breath it in and will just pray that they won't take up the habit themselves when they are old enough.
Summary: Something I can't stand.

- 04/03/09 I wouldn't say it's overly extreme, at the end of the day you're simply protecting your boys like most mothers! |

- 04/03/09 I can't stand smoking either, and I wouldn't take my children anywhere where there are smokers. I will never allow people to smoke in my house either. |
