Smoking is where tobacco is burned and the smoke is inhaled. It has been around for years now, first starting in around 5000BC although I don't think they had Bensen and Hedges then.

When you first start smoking at a young age, often against your parents will, it can seem fun and excited and different. You can get pleasurable sensations at first which can make you want to smoke more before you become addicted. I think the whole reason people smoke at a young age is because they either want to fit in with their friends, are being pressured into it or because their parents have told them not to.

I remember a few years ago, walking into my daughters bedroom and smelling smoke. I questioned her and at first she denied it then admitted stealing one or two of mine to try it. I was extremely angry and disapointed in her, but at the same time, I was angry at myself because if it hadn't been for me, she wouldn't have had the chance or might not have even wanted to.

I understand that some people see smoking as a way to relieve stress or to relax and others just do it because others do. Smoking is really addictive, I've been a smoker for over over 20 years now, first starting when I was about 14 years old. I have tried to quit and have lasted a few months before going back to them which is bad but I can't seem to help it. The tobacco in cigarettes is extremely addictive which makes quitting hell. I'm horribe when I am trying to quit smoking, I'm really snappy and nasty and I just think, I may as well smoke.

As everyone has seen or heard at some point, smoking is really really bad for you. A single cigarette contains more than 4,000 different chemicals. At least 43 are known carcinogens (cause cancer in humans). Also, cigarettes contain tar which is deposited inthe lungs and makes breathing harder and reduces peoples fitness. Smoking also reduces your ability to taste and smell as good as you should be able to. But people still smoke? It almost seems laughable that people would want to do this doens't it, it kills you, makes you smell and costs you money, but you still do it. As a smoker, even I can't justify why I smoke. I just say 'well I don't drink, I don't take drugs and I don't go out, can't I have something to myself?'

A packet of 20 cigarettes costs around £4.85. The average smoker will smoke 20 in one day and that means that their habit is costing them £2500 a year. Some people smoke even more than that and spend even more. Just think what could be done with that money! I get nagged by daughter everytime I buy cigarettes and despite knowingshe is right, I know how hard it is to quit and don't want to have that struggle.

The government are tightening up on smoking, stopping people from smoking in public which I think is fair enough. If others don't smoke, it isn't fair for them to have some of yours is it? I think the most selfish thing anyone can do is smoke in the car with their kids. It makes me so angry to see a couple of young children in a car with one or two adults smoking. Why should their bodies be damaged because of thei r selfish parents?

I know it will sound hyprocritical of me being a smoker myself, but if you're reading this review and you don't smoke, please don't do it. I do and I regret starting. I only hope that my children don't follow in my footsteps and waste their money like I have over the last goodness knows how long. Overall, smoking is the biggest waste of money out there. I wish I had never started and I am going to try and quit in July, it's my mid year resoloution. Don't do it.

Summary: Don't do it, it isn't worth it.

I hope you manage to give up. My dad is battling bladder cancer which is related to his smoking, and his odds are not good. I may lose someone close to me and I wish he had never started. The trouble is he is a full time carer for mum who had a stroke and is now an invalid. She needs him and only time will tell if he can beat it.

I am a smoker too, my entire family give up tomorrow as we have discovered that my grandad is dying from smoking related illness.

I agree what you said about smoking round kids. The one that gets me is when you see heavily pregnant women outside the hospital with ciggie in hand.
