Right, here we go then. When I was about twelve or thirteen, I used to hate everyone who smoked and I thought that it should be banned. However, I have been thinking about it more recently, mainly because some of my friends have started smoking, and also because I am getting to that age now where I am turning more liberal.

First of all, I think that smoking is disgusting. Of course, I have tried it once or twice (I like to try things before I criticise), not much but it left me coughing and feeling like I'd inhaled a bonfire. So for me, there are no advantages to smoking; it tastes disgusting; it's addictive (I think that being addicted to something shows that you have a weak personality); once addicted it's expensive (thing of how many CDs you could buy a week!) and there are so many disgusting diseases that you can develop that it's just not worth it.

However, I believe that everyone has a right to smoke if they wish - they can control what goes into their bodies just like we have the right to eat whatever we want. However, nowadays when the 12 year olds start smoking, surely they must know all about the risks they will face when they're older. I think that when they develop lung cancer they shouldn't be given priority over those who are ill from passive smoking or other ways that they can't help. Unfortunately, in the past people were not aware of the risks, and were addicted before the tobacco companies admitted that you can get lung cancer and other diseases. Before it was the fault of the tobacco companies if a smoker died, but once that little twelve year old who just lit up for the first time today, somewhere is older gets a serious disease when he is sixty due to that cigarette the blame is on him because surely he know all about the dangers.

It's sad when you see pregnant mothers smoking because you know that the child has no choice over the matter. Of course, I'm sure that the majority of mot
hers try to at least cut down their smoking, but that child is being forced to take the tar into their bloodstream. It's impossible to ban pregnant women from smoking - it's their own choice- but they should be given advice on how to.

Anyway, sorry about a slightly short opinion, and hope you understand me! I think that smoking is ban but it's the choice of the individual whether or not they do it.
