Hello, I've been smoking between 10 and 30 Sovereign a day for around 2 years now. Occasionally I like to test another brand or 'treat' myself to some Lucky Strike or JPS but I always end up coming back to Sovereign. The packet (which is very different to the one illustrated) is black with gold and silver writing and a gold outline of the Sovereign coin. There are also 3 strips of gold running outwards from the coin to the left and right. Tar is 12mg and nicotine is slightly on the low side for a normal strengh cigarette (0.9mg) I think the red packet shown is an old design or one from another country (I do occasionally see empty packets like that thrown on the pavement) The varietys of Sovereign are: Sovereign (10's and 20's) Sovereign Lights (20's, same design but with a very attractive silver background - The lights have air holes in the filters) and I have also seen Sovereign 'Classics' which have a gold background (I've never been able to find these in any shop so please if you know where they are available could you let me know) The taste is very satisfying, strong but not rough and doesn't make your throat soar like other cheap brands. They burn nicely and the 'cherry' does not drop bits like Embassy Number1s tend to. Unlike B&H gold, sovereign have a nice after taste (B&H are a little too refined and lacking in character for me) and considering they are made by the same company and cost alot less I prefere Sovereign any day. I know alot of people compain about Sovereign being "Too strong" or "Harsh" I believe this is an unfortunate myth. They are as smooth (if not smoother) as any other cigarette I have tried. Pros : Amongst the cheapest. Quality for their price. Nice after taste. Some attractive packets. Better than their higher priced big brother (B&H) Availability (Almost all places stock them) The taste isn't too strong or too weak, they
have just enough 'bite' to them - The balance is perfect. Cons: Standard strength black packets look a little boring. Have a slightly bad reputation. (i'd say unfounded) but these are minor gripes for what I find the best smoke there is.
I have been smoking now for about ten years and I have no intentions of giving up yet, especially now that I have found the perfect smoke. When I first started smoking I used to buy Berkeley or Marlboro (which I now think taste foul) and I think I only smoked them because they happened to be the cheapest at the time. Then I moved onto Number 3's but they soon began to taste foul aswell so I tried good old Benson & Hedges (these were expensive fags so they had to be nice?) but no they gave me a head-ache and made me feel really dizzy and sick so I soon stopped smoking them aswell. Then I went on to Lambert & Butler which I found to be quite a nice smoke. But my local shop had run out of Lamberts one day so I scanned all the other Cigarettes and spotted Sovereign. They were priced then at 3.52 for 20 which I thought was quite reasonable so I bought the cigarettes and went home to try one and as soon as I inhaled my first drag I knew I had found the perfect cigarette. They dont burn your throat like some other cigarettes and they have a strange but nice after taste to them. These cigarettes come in packs of 10 or 20 and contain 12mg TAR and 0.9mg NICOTINE. Unfortunately these cigarettes are no longer priced at 3.52 for 20 but they haven't risen that much so you can pick up a pack of 20 now for 389 and a packet of 10 will cost you 1.92. Which isnt that expensive for a good smoke.
