Review of Zig Zag automatic cigarette rolling machine. !!WARNING!! Smoking kills! I must start this review by stating that I do not endorse smoking in any way. It is an expensive habit in more ways than the mere monetary issue, it damages your health and that of people who breathe in your smoke. If you do not smoke, please keep it that way and if you do smoke, please consider quitting. Now to contradict myself! I am a smoker, I enjoy smoking, I have smoked for around 40 years now, and, shame on me, I have no plans to give up at the moment. I smoke on average 5 cigarettes a day, sometimes I smoke packet (tailor made) cigarettes and I also smoke roll-ups. If find my first and last cigarettes of the day are my little bit of 'me time' and I look forward to them. My partner a life long non smoker, bought me this cigarette rolling machine as he got tired of seeing me fiddle around trying to make my roll ups when we were travelling on the UK waterways system by narrowboat. We were moored up on a marina where a boat show was taking place on adjacent land. There were many side shows and stalls on the site and the rolling machine was bought at this show. I believe he paid in the region of £5 for the machine. **The Zig Zag Machine** This automatic rolling machine is made by Zig Zag, a company that those readers who smoke hand rolled cigarettes will have probably heard of. The machine makes rolling cigarettes a whole lot easier. Zig Zag automatic rolling box is very easy to use and it comes with comprehensive instructions. To make a cigarette, open the lid and fill the tough vinyl fabric trough of the rolling band with tobacco, add your cigarette paper with the gum moistened and then close the lid gently. As the lid shuts the mechanism rolls the tobacco and from the slit on the top of the box, out pops a perfectly rolled cigarette. Any brand of hand rolling tobacco and standard sized papers can be used. I prefer to use a filter tip on my cigarettes and I place the filter in the trough before rolling. The square shaped rolling box is made from stainless steel with a high polish finish. The Zig Zag logo is embossed on the front of the rolling box. The steel is very good quality and all edges are well rounded and finished off, so there are no sharp metal edges. The Zig Zag automatic rolling machine can be adjusted to make either 8mm or 6mm cigarettes. I tend to use the smaller setting to save on tobacco. The dimensions of the Zig Zag automatic rolling box are approximately 9cm by 8.5cm by 2.5cm deep. **Availability and Cost** Zig Zag rolling machines can be found in tobacconist shops and various on line retailers. I have checked today for current prices and on line availability. The Zig Zag automatic rolling machine can be found at the sites below:- http://www.pazyryk.co.uk £4.99 http://www.roll-ups.co.uk £6.19 http://www.thebackyshop.co.uk £6.99 www.amazon.co.uk from £1.63 When I was checking prices on line, I found that spares, such as replacement rolling bands can be purchased from many retailers. I have no need for any spare parts at the moment, but will bear this in mind for future reference. **My Thoughts and Conclusion** I love my Zig Zag! The rolling machine has been used regularly ever since it was bought for me, the metal finish has not dulled and although there are one or two dents where I have dropped it (!) it is still in very good condition for four years usage. I find that I can roll consistently perfect cigarettes using this gadget. It does take a little practise to get the closure of the lid just right, if you close it too quickly, your cigarette tends to come out too tightly rolled, which makes it difficult to draw on. It is definitely worth persevering to get the technique right as the machine make cigarette rolling very easy and quick. I tend to make half a dozen or so cigarettes at a time and store them in the box for future use. The box can double up as a storage tin for your rolling papers, filter tips and tobacco. I would warn that tobacco should not be stored loose in the tin, it is not entirely airtight so the tobacco does dry out rapidly if not in it's original wrapper. For me, this cigarette rolling box offers excellent value for money, it works well, it is durable and easy to use. It produces consistently perfect cigarettes every time and I have found it uses less tobacco than when I roll by hand. I would recommend this Zig Zag automatic rolling machine to other smokers who roll their own cigarettes.
