For my son's second birthday, he was given all sorts of toy vehicles as presents. Like most little boys, he had started to show a real interest in cars and vehicles and when we went to friend's houses or playgroups these were always what he went straight for. This obviously didn't go unnoticed and he now has a sizeable collection of his own. One of the vehicles that he received was this Big City Recycling Truck from the Early Learning Centre.
The truck is part of the Big City range from ELC, from which we now own several components (reviews to follow!). It is for children aged 3 years plus but it is actually quite a big, bulky truck and I have no qualms in letter my two year old son have it. It is priced at £7 but is part of the two for £10 promotion, which makes it much better value.
The truck is quite large and easy for a toddler to grab and push around - specifications are: weight 0.222 kg, height 12.8 cm, width 27 cm and depth 8.8 cm. It is made of a fairly thick green plastic with a black base and three sets of wheels that roll freely and easily. On top of the cab there are two orange lights - these are for decoration purposes only though and, much to my son's disappointment, do not actually work. The body of the truck is rounded and has holes cut in for the materials to be recycled to be put into the truck. There are stickers beneath each with pictures of the materials to be recycled there - paper/cans/glass. The wording for each is in various languages - I am not a fan of this and do not see the point when it is likely that a toddler will not even recognise the English yet. The truck also opens in two so anything posted through these holes can be removed. No recycling materials are supplied and my son doesn't really have anything small enough to fit through the holes so nothing tends to make it's way into here. It is also quite stiff to open so my son finds this quite frustrating. He tries to slot some of his smaller cars in here but it then will not close up again due to the plastic compartmentalisation inside.
The truck is a nice addition to his car and vehicle collection and it is good for pushing along his road rug but it is too big for the Big City garage etc. It is quite sturdy and well made and good for encouraging imaginative play. I think it is good value if bought on the two for £10 promotion along with another vehicle and would definitely recommend it for vehicle mad toddlers.
Fuel their imagination with the City Service Recycling Truck.
