Advantages: the skip moves up and down and comes off.
Disadvantages: nothing apart from being made to look silly by a 3 year old!
If you have read my previous review you will know a few months back we received a bin liner full of Bob the builder toys from a colleague of my husbands. There was a huge selection of the characters. One of them was the skip. My son has got a lot of enjoyment out of this one since it arrived. You can imagine what fun a little one can have with a skip putting things in it and lifting it up and down.
The skip is lime green with a yellow skip attached to the back of it. I love the colour although when my son has it outside it seems to attract the little black bugs a bit! At its tallest it is about 15cm high and at its longest is 28cm when the skip is right down. Again the headlights on the skip are his eyes and when the vehicle moves along the floor the eye balls move. Under the grill is a rather large smiling yellow mouth. This guy looks a very friendly one.
The little yellow skip is on a tail lift which is easy to move up and down. My son has no problem doing this. The skips does swing about on its pretend plastic chains it is held up on to make it that bit more realistic. My son likes to take his outside and fill it with small pebbles. I can see this one not staying very clean for long! I can't complain though he is certainly using his imagination skills.
Now the skip does actually come off the tail lift although I actually never knew how to do it. This was until my 3 year old nephew came round and showed me how it was done! How silly did I feel as it is rather simple really. You squeeze two bits underneath the top bar together and that brings the little poles the skip chain is sat on in and it drops off. So there is proof this toy is best in the hands of a young one!
The skip is made from strong plastic but I wouldn't recommend for the very young or heavy handed child as I could see with some force the lift could break. There aren't any small parts to worry about though if you have little ones on the move as well.
As for the friction it is pretty much the same as the others in this series. We have great fun on our wooden floor. Again to make it go you whizz it forward a couple of times then let go of it. The front of the skip is attached to the back with a small swivel bit. It doesn't come apart it is held together by a screw but this means when you whizz it along the floor it can do great turns rather than just straight forward. My son loves seeing it do full circles.
Again with all the Bob the builder characters we have received it doesn't need batteries. This is a big plus in my eyes. This toy has enough features to keep it fun but simple for a young child. My son has spent a lot of time out in the garden with this toy filling and emptying his skip.
As for value for money I would say a big yes. It is great fun for any child whether they are a Bob the builder fan or not. I think you pay around the £5 mark for it which is well worth it.
