We bought this Britain's Keenan Klassik Diet Feeder Wagon for my son when he was nearly two years old as a special treat.
We are a farming family with a dairy farm in Lincolnshire and we have the full size version of this Keenan feeder out on the farm for feeding the beast. When we saw it at our local country show we bought it knowing that our son would love it even though he was a little too young for it.
The feeder is made of very thick strong metal and is very heavy. The Keenan feeder is made on a scale of 1:32 and is about 18cm long by 8cm wide so it isn't very big. When you push or pull the keenan along the mechanism turns and the mixers inside turn. This is just the real thing for mixing up the various ingredients fed to the cows. The shoot on the side has a clear cover just like the real thing and there are many other details that are true to life. This feeder can be hitched to any of the tractors or machinery in the Britain's 1:32 range.
My son loves this feeder because it is the same as Daddy's. He loves to hitch it up to his Britain's Massey Ferguson Tractor and push it around his 'farm'. He uses his tractor to fill the feeder with 'potatoes' and 'silage' and then pushes it up and down in lines just like when Grandad feeds the heifers! We don't have many of the Britain's toys apart from a couple of tractors, a milk lorry, some cows and the Keenan so his games with this particular brand are a little limited. He much prefers the bigger Bruder Tractors and machinery that we have that are on a scale of 1:16. This is nothing against the quality or entertainment value of the Britain's toys but we just have a better selection of the bigger range.
In my opinion the Britain's toys are excellent quality and very hard wearing. We have had this feeder for two years and it is still in very good condition despite all three of my children playing with it regularly. A couple of the pieces have come off like the white shoot on the side which we stuck back on. The side of the feeder that covers the turning mechanism also came off but as this is a very heavy metal piece I haven't been able to glue it back in place. It does clip back on and the fact that it is loose hasn't spoilt my son's enjoyment.
We bought our Keenan from a stall at the Lincolnshire Show for about £15.00. It is also available at our local country store www.cobbscountrystore.co.uk for £13.50 plus postage which can be expensive. I have also seen it on www.amazon.co.uk for £14.99 and this is currently available (Nov 2008) with free delivery.
I think that on it's own this toy is of very little value but if you have tractors or front loaders from the same scale Britain's range this would be a great addition to your collection.
I would recommend the Britain's range for children aged 3 and over because of the weight of some of the pieces and the small parts. The attention to detail and the quality is outstanding and they make great toys for any little farmers. The pieces are small enough to be easily stored in a toy box and the range is vast including all types of farming machinery livestock and people.
This product is of excellent quality. It is made from good materials, will last while playing and does not break easily. Besides this it will give hours of playing fun and happy moments of time together.
