We bought this Bruder 02126 Manitou Telescopic Loader with accessories for my son for Christmas last year when he was just over two years old. My son plays with this, and other items from the Bruder range that we have, more than any of the other toys that we own.
The Bruder 02126 Manitou Telescopic Loader with accessories is a realistic scale model. The scale is 1:16 and the attention to detail is fantastic. The manitou itself is made of hard red plastic and has large rubber tyres. Inside the Manitou is a seat and steering wheel and all the features like wing mirrors and reversing mirrors are all exactly like the full scale version. The large wheels are rubber and soft to touch and have the deep grips that you would expect for a farm vehicle. The wheel arches are made of grey plastic as are the cab and undercarriage. The telescopic arm can be lifted by turning a small handle on the back of the Manitou. This arm can then be extended using a small wheel on the side of the arm and the head of the extended arm can be tilted by turning another wheelon the end. These are all the same actions that can be performed on the real working Manitou Loader.
The accessory pack came with the Manitou that we bought but you can also buy the pack separately. In the accessory pack you get an adapter that fits to the end of the extending arm in order to hold some of the accessories. You get four hay forks and two pallet forks that can be fitted to the adapter. You also get a cable winch that fits onto the adapter and what we call a calf bucket but what is really called a basket pallet. You also get a front loader (a scoop shaped attachment) that fits to the end of the extending arm.
I am married to a Dairy Farmer and we have a Manitou on the farm for moving calves and filling the feeders and that is what attracted us to this toy version.
My son loves this toy and although it is aimed at children from 3 years he had no trouble playing with it at only two. He is not yet able to change all the different forks and scoops so I do spend a lot of time doing this for him but he is able to lower, raise and adjust the telescopic arm by himself. Our Manitou is played with on a daily basis and my son spends hours moving calves in the basket, loading bales onto his trailer with the forks or tipping imaginary feed or silage into his feeder with the front loader.
The Manitou is very hard wearing and sturdy. Some of the parts like the wing mirrors are small so you have to be careful that they don't get broken off. This toy is played with constantly in our house by my two sons aged three and one and by my daughter aged four. They are all farm and animal mad and to have a toy that is just like daddy's is amazing to them.
The only problem I have with the toy is that I am the one who has to change the forks and I am constantly taking things off and putting others on. They are also quite big and so do need a bit of storage space for example this Manitou is 15cm high by 33cm long without any of the attachments.
I would recommend any of the Bruder toys to anyone with children who like tractors and farm toys. The attention to detail is excellent and they are just like the real thing. They are big hard wearing, and real value for money. I would definitely recommend this if you already have some tractors and trailers as this toy is so versatile and can be used in conjunction with your other toys.
Bruder is a German company that specialises is making realistic scale models of farming machinery and vehicles. You can get everything from key rings to combine harvesters and they are all really realistic. The scale models start as small as 1:128 and go up to 1:16. There are three ranges available, the mini series, the professional series which includes the Manitou and a range called Roadmax which is specifically designed for younger children. The Roadmax range doesn't have any of the real life detailing of the Professional range but they are still excellent. They are big vehicles made of hard plastic with big chunky rubber wheels. For more information on any of the Bruder ranges go to www.bruder.de/ea
We paid £22.00 pounds for our Manitou from our local country store, www.cobbscountrystore.co.uk they also do mail order but postage can be costly. I don't think that any of the Bruder toys are available from places like Toysrus but they are widely available online at sites like www.amazon.co.uk.
I don't think you can get better quality or more realistic farm toys that this.
