When my son was about 18 months old we bought him a Bruder Roadmax Tractor with Frontloader (see my other review). We were so pleased with the quality of the tractor and the amount our son enjoyed it that we decided to add a trailer to his Bruder Roadmax collection.
The Bruder Roadmax Rear Tipper is a large trailer that fits to the back of the Roadmax Tractor. Without the tractor the trailer is of little entertainment value. As well as being available separately you can buy a boxed set that contains the tractor and trailer.
The trailer is made of hard green plastic and has large squeezy rubber tyres. The trailer can be tipped up and will stay in position until it is pushed back down again. There is a red flap at the back this clicks shut but once opened it will hang down while the trailer is tipped. This is just like the real tipper trailers that are used to carry feed or muck. The trailer is 33cm long including the tow bar 16 cm wide and 16 cm tall when not in the tipping position. It has a double axle and has four lovely big tough tyres.
My son loved his trailer and played with it almost daily. He is getting a little older now and has moved up to the next stage Bruder range. My youngest son has just turned one and he has started showing an interest in the Roadmax farm toys that we have although at the moment he is mostly interested in the tractors.
I am really pleased with this trailer as it is very good quality and perfectly suited to it's 2 years and over age range. The trailer is big and chunky and very robust. Our trailer is about 18 months old and has taken quite a lot of punishment from our three children but is still in excellent condition. The trailer has no small parts or anything that can be easily pulled off or broken. The whole thing is very child friendly and although it doesn't have all the realistic detailing of some other Bruder vehicles it is excellent for younger children.
Bruder is a German company that specialises is making realistic scale models of farming machinery and vehicles. You can get everything from key rings to combine harvesters and they are all really realistic. The scale models start as small as 1:128 and go up to 1:16. There are three ranges available, the mini series which is mainly key rings, the professional series which is aimed at older children and is very realistic and the Roadmax range which is specifically designed for younger children. There are several vehicles in the Roadmax range including a tractor with frontloader, tipper lorry and a refuse lorry. They are all big vehicles made of hard plastic with big chunky rubber wheels. For more information on any of the Bruder ranges go to www.bruder.de/ea
We bought our trailer from a local supplier for £14.99 but this is quite expensive. The Trailer is available from our local country store, www.cobbscountrystore.co.uk for £11.25 (Dec 2008) they also do mail order but postage can be costly. I don't think that any of the Bruder toys are available from places like Toysrus but they are widely available online at sites like www.amazon.co.uk. Currently (Dec 2008) this trailer is under £10 on Amazon.
I would definitely recommend this trailer to anyone who already has the Bruder Roadmax tractor or to anyone buying both the tractor and trailer. I am very impressed by the quality of this trailer and am pleased that is so hard wearing and long lasting. The tractor will enable your child to play more realistic farm based games.
