Character Options Peppa Pig Space Ship
Advantages: Children enjoy it.
Disadvantages: Adults don't!
My daughter is an intense fan of peppa pig to say the least and around Christmas time this year she began to take an interest in spaceships. This was following a change in the display corner at nursery and all she would say up until Christmas is ' is Santa bringing me a spaceship.' In actual fact, no Santa was not bringing her a spaceship because for the weeks prior to Christmas I searched everywhere for a decent looking spaceship that was not completely aimed at boys. This was a difficult search and also a search that came up with no results. I had come across the peppa pig space ship but at the time it was costing £24 in Argos and to be honest I thought it was one of the tattyist looking toys I had seen. Anyway come Christmas she didn't even question the fact that Santa hadn't brought her a spaceship so I thought all was fine. A couple of weeks later however the desire for a space ship came back and so I eventually (using a cheque sent from some distant family relative) caved and bought the peppa pig space ship.
I managed to find the spaceship on Amazon for £12.00 and I was a lot more happy to be paying this price for it. Once it came and I took it out of the box and had a quick test of it I didn't think it was all that bad. My daughter, unbeknown to me, didn't actually want a toy spaceship, she wanted a real one and the first words that came out of her mouth when I presented her the spaceship was "Kerry won't fit in there." and then she eye balled it with a speculative look. Nether the less, after her confused reaction she did play with it for a considerable amount of time.
The space rocket in size is reasonable, it is big enough for a young child to play with anyway. It is red and yellow in colour and has a large handle for ease of playing and easy transportation. The spaceship has three compartments with individual doors to each, these also have little windows. Inside two of the compartments are seats which have seat belts. The rocket comes with two characters, George pig and Danny dog, both of which are wearing space suits. These characters have slightly bendy bodies which helps them to sit down in the seats. One of the major problems we have with this space ship is that the seat belts to hold the figures in place are extremely fiddly! The seats do swivel slightly giving you more room to get your fingers in but it is a really tricky and fiddly business trying to fasten the seat belts. My daughter definitely can't do it, which like most things she can't do really frustrates her as she is very much enjoying her independence at the minute.
The spaceship also has a sound activate button at the bottom, the aim is to obviously turn it on, and then place it onto the ground, the space ship then counts down to 0 and then it says blast off! As soon as you lift the toy of the floor it makes a very loud rocket taking off noise. The downside to this is that, although it is very fun for my daughter, it gives me a whopping headache. It is by far one of the loudest toys she owns and there is not a volume button either. With repetitive play this is very annoying. Despite this toy causing me problems anyway my daughter really enjoys it. I wasn't wrong when I thought it looked very tatty as since we bought it 6 months ago the doors have fell of countless of times and now one is missing. Its not a great toy but children seem to like it, well my daughter does. I would only recommend it if the price is right because I would certainly have not paid full price for it. It is not good for the ears but it encourages roll play and imagination which not all toys offer. I would recommend that it is used by children between the ages of 3-5. I would not recommend it for under 2's as there are a lot of small pieces and bits and bobs, and it is awfully loud.
Summary: Ear plugs may be an option!
