The Cars Mini Speed Trap set was reduced down to £10 in Tesco a few weeks ago. The original selling price was £25, but clearly nobody was willing to part with such a high price for such a small set! Although the outer box for this looks like it's a decent size, most of the contents is cardboard, and you can work that out easily just by looking at the contents pictures on the back of the box before you buy it. Once I'd got this all set up, which took about fifteen minutes in all, this was a surprisingly nifty little toy. It includes a mini Lightning McQueen and a mini Mack, and you can use the mini Lightning McQueen to do a few stunts with in this set. What surprised me with this was how effective the stunts are. Often with these cheap car toys, you find that they don't do what the box suggests they will, but with this toy, we've found that it completes the stunts smoothly about 75% of the time (which sounds mediocre but is honestly very good compared to the competition!). One of the cutest stunts this little set can do, is to fire McQueen down the track using a launcher (included), and watch him jump up and over the tire yard, before landing neatly onto a ramp that slides him into the back of Mack's trailer. From there, you can flip up Mack's ramp and drive McQueen away. I really do like how smoothly this stunt is achieved, as it allows for a younger child to play alone without me having to hear the repeated squeals and whines of "Grandad it's not doing it again!". Another stunt it can do, is to fire McQueen up a ramp just before he reaches the tyre yard, so that he hits a booby trap which flips up the fences around the tyre yard, which McQueen falls into. It's obviously been based on the scene from the film where McQueen winds up locked in the tyre yard, and there are lots of little role playing scenes that young imaginations can come up with around this scenario. If you've got the mini Mater (sold seperately) then that goes particularly well with this set. All in all this is a nice little toy that was a bargain for £10! I'd still be pretty pleased with it if I'd paid up to about £20 for it, and definitely rate it above similar toys due to it's efficiancy. There isn't a lot included in the set, but what's here - works. Definitely a thumbs up from us.
