“ Brand: Fisher Price / Type: Truck „
Shortly before my sons third birthday we had a look through a couple of catalogues to see if he could find anything he might like. He picked the Go Diego Go Talking Rescue 4x4 and refused to look for anything else.
We had already bought him some other little bits and this was to be his main present. At the time he was vehicle mad and completely obsessed by Go Diego Go so I felt that the £19.99 price tag at Argos would be worth it for this truck.
The rescue vehicle comes in quite a big box and is well secured! You get quite a large yellow 4x4 vehiclethat looks like a jeep or safari truck, a small yellow trailer, a small figure of Diego, a small Sammy the sloth character, another figure that also looks like a sloth and a maned wolf figure and a card with details about the maned wolf on it.
All the parts of the vehicle including the wheels are made of plastic and the truck and trailer are quite robust. The vehicle looks well constructed and the steering wheel and all four wheels are moveable. The trailer can be simply clicked on to the vehicle with a small amount of pressure. There is a button on the side of the 4x4 vehicle which when pressed produces 4 different phrases. The first is the sound of an animal followed by diego saying "That's a maned wolf and he's in trouble, to the rescue" there is then the sound of an engine starting and then Diego says something in spanish. All four phrases are long and unfortunately are not very clear. Each phrase features animal and engine noises and Diego speaking in both English and Spanish.
The animal characters are solid pieces of plastic and the two sloths are postured so that they can hang from the rail on the 4x4 vehicle. The maned wolf is in a standing position and can stand on the back part of the truck or in the trailer.
Diego has moveable arms and legs and you can turn his head. He is made of plastic and is wearing his adventurer outfit and a hat. The hat cannot be removed. Unfortunately Diego doesn't fit very well behind the wheel of his 4x4 vehicle.
When he first opened this gift on his birthday my son was not overly excited. He was pleased to see the Diego character but I think he was a little overwhelmed by the whole birthday experience. Since then he has played with the Rescue vehicle a few times. He tends not to play with the animals included with the set very much and he gets very frustrated with Diego. I have to put Diego behind the wheel as my son cannot get him to fit and as soon as you move the vehicle Diego does tend to topple over. The phrases are too unclear to be heard properly and my children don't very often use this feature of the toy as after a few presses they still couldn't work out what was being said.
Overall I was pleased with the quality of the toy although the phrases were disappointing. I think it will stand up well to the treatment of three children under five and will hopefully last a little while. I don't think I would buu any of the other items from the Go Diego Go range.
Join Diego on 12 rescue missions as he races in his 4x4 vehicle to the heart of the rainforest to rescue his animal friends from peril, with this Go Diego Go talking rescue set. As you play, listen out for Diego's rescue mission phrases in English and Spanish and also for realistic vehicle and animal sounds from the popular TV show. Appealing to fans and budding wildlife lovers alike, this rescue set includes a 3.5" Diego figure together with a 4x4 rescue vehicle, two animal friends, an exclusively marked Maned Wolf figure and an animal fact card.
