Fisher-Price Stand and Play Rampway
Advantages: Well made, simple to use
Disadvantages: Cars fall off the ramp
One of the things I love about this set is how easy it was to set up. It all slides in to place and only took around five to 10 minutes to build. There are the extra ramp ways you have to add on but these are easy to assemble. Once it is in one piece it is extremely durable so there is no need to keep rebuilding which is a real upside for me. The garage is a taller than average ramp as it is aimed for toddlers to stand up and use. It can also be used while little one is sitting down as there are activities all the way down the ramp to keep them happy. Both my sons can play with this at the same time without any fighting about which car goes first.
The bright colours make the ramp way stand out from other toys, and like the other little people sets we have owned it is well made. You receive two cars with the ramp way when you first buy it but others can be purchased separately. There are two lanes down from the very top. As they are steep ramps the cars fly down it at a very quick pace which my children love. Also on the sides there are different attractions marked for little one to travel too. There is a garage, and pictures of things such as a zoo and a shop for little one to look at. Also on the top of the ramp way is a handle that is built in so it is very easy to move around in-between play. On the way down the ramp are tunnels and signs for them to pass through which seem to be a nice touch. This seems to really excite my children as it adds a little adventure to the ramp. Also at the bottom of the ramp is a small button. When the car passes over this it activates different noise effects like filling up the car, or revving the engine.
At first this looks like a simple ramp it has provided my children with hours of fun. They never seem to bore of rolling cars down the ramp way, and a simple car change seems to mean the ramp completely changes. There are also all the other interactive features on the ramp. This includes a garage pit stop that can be lifted up and down with a satisfying clicking noise. There is also a ledge for cars to sit, a petrol pump at the bottom of the ramp and a flashing finish line light with sound effects. All these little pieces seem very simple to me but to my sons they are all the perfect combination. This grabs both of their attentions and for long periods of time.
On the side of the toy is one of the features best loved my children. There is bay to load a car and then this act as a lift right up to the top of the ramp. My boy's absolutely love this and they use it each time they want to start a race. It was a little stiff at first to push all the way up, but as time has gone on it has began to loosen a lot more. Now both my two year old son and my five year old son can do this independently. It is suitable for children 18 months and older which I think is fair. They can sit at the bottom and play with the activities, and they would also be able to reach the top of the ramp way. Everything is made to be used by little hands, and any of the interactive features are very simple to use. It still appeals to my five year old son, but my two year old boy loves it too because it is suited to both of them.
Other cars can be used on this ramp way and my son often uses his Disney cars. We do tend to try and use lighter cars as they can fly of the ramp, but pretty much every small car my children own can pass down it. The cars provided can also be used on the floor as of course they have free moving wheels. The whole thing is very sturdy. With other garages we have the problem that they all need to be built up from lots of pieces. Then while little one is playing with it we found these pieces would fall apart and spoil the children's fun. You can tell this has been aimed at a younger audience because it is very well built. It comes in two main pieces that once fitted together provide a sturdy play piece. It has a large flat bottom so it sits on the floor without tipping or sliding around, and little one can lean on it without having to worry.
One downside for me is that the cars fly of the ramp half way down sometimes. This happens with the cars provided as well as others my children use. It means that if little one is sitting using the side of the ramp the cars can come flying past their heads. This only seems to happen on the left side of the ramp so we have to make sure my son is sitting the other side. It is not often that they do come off but as they do come down quickly they could hurt any child in the way. The walls of the ramp are just too low so it is easy for a car to come off at the corners. Also some of the stickers have started to peel away. This is making the toy look old and worn.
We really do love this ramp way and it has been a hit with my children. At £45 it is a fair price for this toy as it provides hours of fun. As it all comes in two pieces that fit perfectly so that it never comes apart so children can have uninterrupted play. It is all perfect for toddler's hands and older children can still appreciate it too. It has received a lot more use than I thought it would and the simple idea seems to be amazing to my children. It is bright and colourful attracting younger toddlers and older children at the same time.
Summary: Great toy
