We decided to buy this for my son at Christmas, although he was slightly young at the time he had been playing with it at a friends and its all he would talk about, we happened to be in toys r us that weekend and was reduced to £9.99 so bought it.
It is relatively easy to put together, you slide the bulky bit over your door frame, then connect the track, giving you a 7foot drop then your in business.
because he was little he could not reach the lift to raise the cars so I was left raising each car whilst he waited at the bottom to catch them. It took ages to get it working as the cars kept dropping off the track or flying over the ages. In the end we had to put a cushion under the track to stop it from being as steep.
It comes with a fire loop to shut the cars through but this is a cheap bit of card which didnt last long. the fun was there for a while but then soon became bored. Instead he now lays part of the track over the sofa and watches the cars fly down there as is a lot easier.
I got this set for my son who was well pleased when he opened it all up. I set up the v-drop, this is like a vertical drop you can hang over a door or something and the cars do a death defying fall before flying off really high.
The track is a 7-foot drop, has an elevator for the car and a pretend flaming ring which you are supposed to get the car to jump through.
Because you can connect different tracks, a really good idea by Hot Wheels we added the criss cross set and v drop together to get really big stunts, most of which didn't work but that was half the fun, the problem was because we had the vdrop track really long and high the track kept falling apart and the cars kept going over the side but when it worked it was really good.
The fact that you can add tracks and change the shapes and cars means this toy will keep kids playing for a really long time. I think having at least two tracks which interchange means the fun will last for a lot longer.
If you can get this working well its great but the higher you put it up the harder it is to keep it one the track.
Hot Wheels V-Drop
There's LOADS of Hot Wheels sets and cars and - things - out there, and Boy is the proud owner of many - On the whole I've found them good, worth the extra cash as they take a lot more abuse - sorry ' playing with'
We bought the Hot Wheels V-Drop set for the Boy's birthday back in March but it's still very available now, easy to find in many shops or online. We got it fom Toys 'r' Us and it cost just under £15 but was on offer at the time...you also get 5 cars included with the track set which is good !
Well once prezzies unwrapped the V-Drop was the winner, the "put-it-together-now-put-it-together-now" chant confirmed it. All in all it was the easiest thing I had to put together that day and there was plenty.
Most of the V-Drop set is made up of orange plastic track which just slots together, with a ramp bit that fits at one end and the Lift bit on other, the lift was a bit fiddly but nothing complicated.
Once together it 'hooks' over your door -you pull a bit of cord which gets your car to the top on its little 'lift' platform, once said car gets to the top it whizzes down the long steep SEVEN FEET of track and flys off the ramp at the bottom --- they go fast --- we all had a play !
(You also get a cardboard hoop with flames on which slots into a little plastic stand but this got trodden on not long after I set it up so didn't see much use)
Not all Hot Wheels cars would fit, mainly ones with wide tyres but most fit with no problems - and some of the other makes hes got fit the track too.
"It's Broke mummy !"
It lasted about a week until the lift broke - cars would go up but wouldn't come off and go down track, but it was played with constantly. Even though ours broke I STILL recommend this set because the 7 foot of car track is still in daily use and the cars that came with it. All you do is prop it up on something and whizz the cars on it - still very fun and one of the boys favorite things.
The recommended age for the set is 5 + but we got it little boy for his 4th B-Day and he had no problems using it. All things considered I'd recommend the V-drop for any car-mad boy - and is one of the cheaper sets you can buy, even if the lift bit breaks it still provides tonnes of fun. Has put me off other Hot Wheels sets a bit though.
