Peppa Pig Push N Go Car
Advantages: Very true to the TV programme in appearance, durable, young children can incorporate it into games
Disadvantages: I cannot understand why Peppa can be taken out of the car while the others can't
My 23 month old granddaughter is a huge Peppa Pig fan so when I saw this Push N Go Car reduced from £12.99 to just £5 in my local discount store I decided to buy it for her as a treat.
The car is just like Peppa's little red car in the programme and even without the figures inside I would say it's easily recognisable to my granddaughter, and me actually as I love Peppa Pig almost as much as she does! Mummy and Daddy Pig are sitting in the front seats while Peppa and her little brother George are in the back, all the characters are wearing the same clothes as they wear on the TV which is great in my opinion as it makes the toy more in keeping with the programme - recently my daughter bought her a Dora dolly that was wearing a completely different style of clothing to what my granddaughter usually sees her in on the TV and she really isn't as interested in this doll as she would have been as consistency is so important for young children.
To activate the car you simply need to push Daddy Pig down, as soon as you've done this the car will make 'beep, beep' sounds and then play the sweet Peppa Pig theme tune before zooming off at quite a pace across my wooden floor. The car moves smoothly and will also work on carpet although on the carpet it does get stuck sometimes and will wheel around in circles which my granddaughter shrieks with laughter at, although I find it rather irritating. Daddy Pig is easy to push down and from the very first time my granddaughter was able to activate the car herself with no help from me, although sometimes she'll forget and try pushing Mummy Pig which annoys her as this particular character doesn't even move down let alone make the car drive!
Of the four characters, Peppa is the only one which can be removed. I find this strange as Peppa is surely the most important character in the programme (although George is very, very sweet) and the fact that she can be taken out of the car means she will invariably be the one that is lost. Mind you, the fact that the characters cannot be taken out makes cleaning the inside of the car a bit of a pain as to get in between the rather portly Mummy and Daddy Pig I have had to start using my older granddaughter's recorder cleaning stick as there is simply not enough room for me to get a finger between the characters.
The car seems to be very durable, it's not wobbly or wonky despite the fact that it has been played with on a daily basis since I bought it four months ago. None of the paint has worn away from any part of the car or little piggy characters, even the flimsy looking wing mirrors are still in one piece which surprised me as I had thought these would be the first thing to be broken. To be fair my granddaughter is surprisingly careful with her toys considering how young she still is, but even so for the car to still be looking as good as new is testament to the excellent quality of this toy.
It takes three AAA batteries which will last forever and a day as the car doesn't take an awful lot of power to get it going, in fact these are still the initial batteries which came with the toy and as I said earlier this is one of my granddaughters most frequently used toys and has been for some months now.
I love watching my granddaughter playing with this toy. She is of an age now where she incorporates her toys into games and role playing and the car is often used to ferry 'Pep-Pig' to the 'sops' where she usually buys 'stawbres' and 'cwips' to share with 'Grrreerge' and 'Ollie' - for those of you not blessed with the ability to speak toddler this translates to 'Peppa Pig goes to the shops for strawberries and crisps to share with George and Hollie (my granddaughter)'! I'd say the car is good value for money even at its full price as it has good play value and despite the fact that it's not educational in itself, it is a good toy for young children to include in their games and the fact that it moves on its own power is a great delight to my granddaughter who generally has the attention span of a goldfish and quickly loses interest in toys which don't do anything.
It's suitable for babies of 18 months and over, while I don't usually agree with these ratings I think the manufacturer has got it spot on in this instance.
