      Very helpful

A great little addition for imaginative play and learning with cars and trains

This is a set of 14 little wooden signs that we bought over a year ago for my son. They were bought to go with both his wooden train set and his car mat and cars. I had ordered them off the internet so when they arrived I was pleasantly surprised that they were not as small as I expected. They are around 7 cm high so stand about the same height as some of his trains when they are on the track. Each sign is mounted on a small stand these are nice and curved so there are no sharp edges for children to catch themselves on. The bases of the stands are all nice and even so the signs actually stand up very well and tend to only tip over when knocked by a car or train or my son. The signs themselves are again well made and colourful and correctly show all the signs they are supposed to represent. They have stood up well to the test of time with no fading to the bright colours. The signs are made from rubber wood and are quite sturdy we have only had one casualty that has broken during the time of play which I think is quite good and this was down to it being hit by a large dinosaur and the top of the sign coming off.

In play my son loves these and happily puts these around his car mat or by the train set. They are also proving useful for helping him learn about some traffic signs such as no entry, train crossing and traffic lights. They are also helping him with his number recognition skills all without him being aware he is learning. The manufacture claims that they help with hand eye co-ordination and I can see this to a degree as my son needs to be careful how and where he places them but that said I don't think that this is a huge selling point for these toys. The mainly educational use of these I think is the way that they can add to creative and imaginative play. My son uses these to add to his play with his cars telling them to slow down or wait for the traffic lights to change. With his train set he tends to use it for the cars that go alongside the trains telling them to wait at the crossing and the no entry signs to tell certain trains they can't go that way. They also certainly helping him to become more aware of signs in general when out and about and he will ask me about signs and what they mean if he hasn't got one.

The signs are for children 3 upwards and whilst they are small I do think a child that is 2 plus that is supervised would enjoy playing and using the signs. But given that they can break and one has broken in our set they may present a choking hazard I would say to do this with caution and only supervised play.

Overall these are a great little set for use with toy cars and trains they are well made and add a bit extra for imaginative play. At around £8-10 for the set I think they are a great little buy and last well so are probably better than cheaper plastic ones that are more liable to break.
