A lovely extra for a Brio train set

      Recommended ages 3+
      I would recommend from 18 months +

This was one of our first Brio toys. My son was 22 months old when he got this and it was one of his very favourite toys that Christmas. My younger son (age 2) has enjoyed this toy for the past year. There are no small parts that could come off easily and I can think of no reason a younger child should not play with this. the only possible safety hazard, as with all wooden toys is that it is hard and relatively heavy.

I bought this toy because my oldest son had a thing for car washes and it does have a car wash built in. The toy is very simple, so much so that my husband thought it was rubbish until he saw how much my son loved it. It is just a wooden base, which connects to Brio track if you want to use it as an engine wash or to wash Brio cars. On the base is a small plastic petrol station which has a petrol pump which lights up and makes a pumping sound followed by a bell. It also has a set of double doors which have the car wash rollers behind them and a single door with a picture of a bag of groceries, which I assume is meant to be a shop. If you wind the knob on the top of the garage it makes a clicking sound and spins the car wash rollers.

As mentioned, there isn't much to this toy, but Brio toys are often deceptively simple. My son spent hours and hours driving cars through the car wash and later wooden trains. Hot Wheels cars do fit quite nicely as well. He would drive the cars through and use the petrol pump to pretend he was "feeding" his cars. My youngest son now has a great deal of fun with this toy as well and it fits nicely into our Brio train set up. It will be four years old this Christmas and still looks like it just came out of the box in spite of constant use. Brio toys are made to last and they are very difficult to damage. It requires one AA battery. I believe the battery has been changed once in 4 years. I personally hate toys that just eat batteries, but this is quite good that way.

I am happy to give this toy 5 stars, my sons get a lot of enjoyment out of it, and truth be told I quite like it myself. Amazon had these for £12.98 + shipping I believe a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, there are none available at the moment, but they are certainly worth watching out for on Amazon and ebay. You might also be able to buy one directly from Brio.
