“ Brand: Chuggington / Type: 5 Piece train set with playmat „
I Was looking for a road map mat toy for my son for his birthday as he is mad on cars, boats and trains infact transport any transport vehicles and he adores them and will sit for hours just playing. While I was browsing the Argos catalogue I came across this Chuggington mat which was what I was looking for apart from the fact it is train tracks rather than roads.
With the set you get a large colourful mat filled with a picture of train tracks and different places from all around chugginton like the sheds V the chug wash all easily recognisable by any chuggington fan.
Also with the set you get what the description say is 5 engines but really it is 4 as Mtambo and the elephant cart connect to each other and I would class as 1 engine.
These are all well recognised characters from the show Brewster, Wilson, Koko, Mtambo and an elephant safari car.
The mat is made of plastic and therefore can be wiped clean which with my little ones is essential. It can be folded up and stored very easily and so my son takes it everywhere with him. It is brightly coloured and attracts little ones attention for hours of great fun for both me and little ones.
Each of the engines has couplings at the front and back of the train and each and everyone can be connected together to make a long train or can be played with separately. They are very well mad and made of metal and plastic nice and chunky and very durable which is good with my three children as they definitely put the toys through hard play. These trains are the diecast engine that we had previously paid around £5 each for and can be linked up to other chugginton engines not provided in this play mat set.
My only don side is that on two of the engine the couplings have dented a little and now it is very awkward for them to connect together which can be very frustrating for my younger 2.I would definitely recommend this mat with it you get 4 diecast trains which to buy separately cost around £5 each.
My 3 children who are 1 2 and 3 absolutely love playing with this mat and with the trains separately. You can purchase this play set from Argos for £19.99. It is recommended for 3 years plus but My little boy who is 1 and my little girl who is 2 both love playing with it as there is no small parts I allow them to do so and they get on just fine.
It was my twin sons 3rd birthday back in November and as usual they were spoilt rotten. Luckily they like a lot of things so choosing their presents was fairly easy. One of the many things they enjoy is Chuggington, a short and sweet cartoon shown on CBeebies, the Children's channel, involving trains so I went on the search for Chuggington themed toys and came across the Chuggington 5 Piece Playset with Playmat.
This particular set costs £19.99 (december 2010) in Argos, however on the Argos website it states it is half price as the original price is £39.99 - which in my opinion is very steep.
I had already bought the twins the Chuggington train carry case for their birthday so we could collect the trains for them and they would have suitable storage, but my main reason for buying this set was the price.
The set comes packaged in a cardboard box, there are 5 of the Chuggington train characters, each packaged seperately in a see through bag and a plastic playmat, which is folded up neatly.
The playmat is a thin yet large (1m) plastic playmat, which is meant to resemble the Chuggington programme as it includes their stations and the tracks which are shown on the show. It can be easily wiped over if it gets dirty, but to be honest it is thin, flimsy and won't last all that long, luckily the playmat was not the reason behind me buying this set in the first place though.
My actual reason for buying the sets was for the trains. To buy these trains on their own they cost £6 per train. It sounds a lot I know, but these trains are brilliant quality. They are surprisingly large, for 'small' trains if that makes sense lol, they are chunky, durable and strong and resemble the characters brilliantly. The set includes 5 of the Chuggington characters, Brewster, Wilson, Koko, Mtambo and an elephant safari car - which does include a little plastic elephant. To buy these trains seperately it would cost £30 for all 5, so I immediately saved myself £10 by buying the set and had the added bonus of a playmat. As I had to buy two so my twins had one each I actually saved myself £20, which in my eyes is a bargain. However if I was to purchase the set at the full price I wouldn't of saved myself a penny. I wouldn't reccomend buying this set at full price as the only extra you get with the set is a playmat, which is not fantastic, it doesn't offer much play really it's just 'there'. You can sometimes buy these trains on offer too, on Amazon I've noticed, as they are sometimes priced from £3-£5, only a small saving but a saving is a saving right!
The sets do make a lovely gift and the trains are fab! Each train has a coupling system so the trains can attach to each other and can't detach without you actually taking them apart yourself. The trains are great fun for children, not only do they look like their characters, colours, facial features etc but they seem to 'work' like them to. Their wheels on the bottom allow children to wheel them around like proper trains whilst they are playing yet appear to have the 'suspension' (rocking side to side) feature that the Chuggington trains have in the programme which makes them all the more exciting for a child. They are quite chunky and weighty, with a metal body to them to. If you can't buy these particular trains which are included, on offer, then this set is great value for money IF you can get it half price or less. I wouldn't reccomend buying the set at full price as it is awfully steep.
The set is suitable for children aged 3 years or over which I'd say is right, the trains don't appear to be much of a hazard to young children but they could hurt if dropped on feet and are a bit heavy to handle for a baby too.
It is a lovely little set, but the mat doesn't offer much at all as it is just a plastic sheet. It could make a lovely gift though!
