      A nice little model train

Amongst the many well made die-cast train toys we have is a lovely little Limited Edition Thomas the Tank Engine. Of all the little Ertl engines he is one of the favorites in the group. Although this is in part is due to Thomas being the main character in the tv series and mini films, it is also down to how lovely this little Ertl model train looks and feels.

      **********************************************************
Thomas came packed into a simple clear fronted plastic and cardboard pack, which clearly shows he is an extra special limited edition Ertl Thomas engine. The pack shows a design picture of Thomas, with a countryside view of the island of Sodor in the background. I feel Thomas comes nicely presented and so would make a lovely gift for any Thomas fan.

We paid around £4.50 for this little train, which at the time was a little more than many of the other Ertl die-cast toys in this range. We feel that we have had good value for money buying the toy, as it has been played with time and time again, yet still looks as fresh and well finished as it did when we unwrapped it.

      **********************************************************
The first thing you notice about this little engine is his smiling and friendly face. He looks such a friendly little chap and comes across as a very approachable and loyal engine. I can see why he was singled out as the main character in the series and this Ertl model captures his essence perfectly.

He is made with a main body of a die-cast metal, but has safe and softer red plastic bumpers. These make him a bit more user friendly as he wont bump or scrape a young child who is playing with him. He will also not chip off the paint work of any of the other Ertl die-cast toys if you have them, when connecting to pull trucks along for instance.

      **********************************************************
The wheels of the train are made from a bright turquoise blue shade which matches the main body colour of Thomas. These wheels are made form a simple but sturdy and long lasting plastic and are connected via a series of very slim wires. There is a black plastic protective panel under neath the body of the train and this helps to keep the wheels in place securely and safely.

      **********************************************************
This little Thomas engine is very nicely modelled and has all the small details that make him look authentic. His number 1 is high lighted in a bright yellow with a red outline, his funnel is in a dark and glossy black and we haven't found any chips or cracks to his paint work at all, even though he has been on many adventures.

As a gift or addition to an existing collection of these Ertl die-cast toys he will not disappoint. Price wise you can expect to pay a little more for him now, so a figure of between £6 and £9 would be heading in the right direction.

He is a lovely little toy, that has a wonderful friendly and approachable persona, which can really help towards children learning how to give and take and get along with their fellows during play times.

      **********************************************************
In summary this little toy is well made, long lasting and well priced. The range of toys including Thomas, can promote some really good role play amongst children. Each of the little engines has their own persona which compliments that of Thomas. This can be wonderful for a group of children playing together who can take turns at voicing the different engines and characters.

Thomas gets a full 5 star rating.

NB: Due to small parts and die cast metal the Thomas toys is not suitable for children under 4 years old.
