      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A good addition to a steam based layout

A brake coach of any sort is a must for model railways that feature steam engines: this Hornby product from the early BR period benefits and suffers from the usual issues with Hornby products.
The price is reasonable, at least in relative terms. My eldest son is a big fan of model railways. I must admit that I share his enthusiasm, but my interest does tend to wain a little when I have to pay for his models! Nearly £25 for what is little more than a plastic box on wheels is always going to be an issue.
That said, the product is well put together and features some nice details. Whilst it isn't as authentic as models produced by other providers (e.g. Bachmann, Farish) it is a good addition to any layout. The couplings are nice and simple and the wheels have no difficulty traversing even the most complex of points layouts.
A word of warning: small children, whilst having an invariable love for all things model railway, can easily damage this kind of product. Be prepared to make running repairs, particularly to the couplings.
