Winnie the Pooh Buildable Musical Railway - Mega Bloks
Winnie the Pooh is Working on the Railroad
Winnie the Pooh is a long standing lovable character originally brought to life by A.A.Milne in 1926, now taken over by Disney and can be found all over the world in many different languages and with many different toys and merchandise.
My daughter absolutely loves Winnie the Pooh and has recently got into playing with all the toys, so for Christmas, she asked Father Christmas for a train and Father Christmas really delivered when he brought this present to our house on Christmas Eve.
ALL ABOARD THE POOH EXPRESS
Mega Bloks are a global organisation which are huge in all types of construction toys aimed at children from the age of preschool to twelve years old. They also offer many craft activities, games and puzzles for all of the family and pride themselves in bringing creativity to the world (as stated on their website).
To me, Mega Bloks has been a name I have known for many years with various types of building blocks which over the years have grown not only in popularity but also in creativity too. It is a name that I have grown to trust and so therefore had no worries with my daughter having any of the Mega Bloks toys.
My daughter already had a large tub of Mega Bloks and so when I saw this lovely set which brought together Mega Bloks building blocks, Winnie the Pooh and also a train set which my daughter loved when playing with her friends set, I felt that this was the perfect present for her.
The set comes in a rather large box, probably too large for what is actually included, yet it does stand out from other sets with its brightly coloured background with up-to-date pictures of Pooh and Tigger from 'My Friends Tigger and Pooh' which my daughter loves. The front is a see-through front for part of it which shows the train itself when packed with a picture below of the whole set so you know exactly what you are getting. As I mentioned already, the box is rather large for the toy itself so look at the front for contents - please don't think that there is more in this set than there is just because the box is bigger.
The train itself is very well attached to the inside box and takes a while to untangle all the parts to get it out, though the blocks are loose in the bottom of the inner box so do watch out for this when you open it as they go everywhere (not that there are a huge amount!).
This set goes together well with the large Mega Bloks playsets and so this can be looked at as an addition to a childs already owned set or it can also work alone though there are not an over abundance of blocks but that does not detract from the train itself.
Within this pack you will find a beautiful train which separates into three parts easily, though my daughter does struggle to put them back together again. The front is a bright engine part of the train with a honey pot steam chimney (sorry, the word for this has gone right out of my mind!) and four blue wheels that go around when pushed. The two carriages come in blue and red and all three parts hold one of the characters included in the set and other small blocks such as the honey pot block. This train is the main part of the set and plays eight different tunes when the chimney is pressed down. These tunes range from a tooting of the whistle of the train to different instruments playing the Winnie the Pooh tune to other tunes such as 'Ive been working on the railroad'. All tunes are easy to listen to and no matter how many times my daughter has pressed the chimney - I have not yet got annoyed with the sound. It does have only one sound setting so there is no turning it up or down, only on or off. There is also a function to allow the train to go forward on its own as well as pushing the train along so two rides for the price of one here!
The train itself is very durable and has withstood many drops onto the floor without denting or breaking. There are no small parts on the train and everything is secured tightly so no worries about safety here.
The train track comes in six parts and goes round in a circle. It is a three different colour track making it very eye catching and has little hills on a couple of the tracks making play more fun for the child. This track is easily put together and is also very durable.
There are also various other blocks and play pieces with this set which include three figures, all with mega blocks bottoms so they can sit within the train or on any blocks of this kind. These figures are matching bright colours to the rest of the set with Winnie the Pooh in a bright and bold farmers outfit, holding a spade, Tigger wearing a farmers hat and holding a cabbage and Piglet with a bright yellow scarf around his neck, holding a watering can. All figures are very durable and sturdy so easy for a young child to grasp.
Other blocks in this set can of course be put in many different ways and with other blocks from other sets, though a couple of ways to put this set together include a bridge over the railway and a tree house. All the blocks are decorated with various things such as carrots and butterflies and my daughter loves putting them all together and making different scenes for her figures to play on. She also loves bringing other figures she has from other play sets and playing with the train together with them. This set was definitely a hit!
As already mentioned, this set, although it looks big in the box, is rather a small set of only 28 pieces. If I was buying a set with only blocks then I would be unhappy with this amount, though with the train included I think that this little set is great.
All the pieces, train, blocks, figures - everything, is brightly coloured, durable and really eye catching.
This is a lovely little set which my daughter really loves and she has not gone a day since Christmas without playing with it. When using her other blocks with this set, there are endless possibilities to her fun and the noises on the train make the fun even more so.
I brought this set from Amazon just before Christmas at £20 and it is certainly a £20 well spent. I have looked online at various stores though it seems that at the moment many have run out of stock which shows how popular this little set is.
This lovely little set is beautiful to look at and perfect for imaginative play. My daughter thoroughly enjoys playing with this set as a train set as well as a building set and sits for hours playing different things with it. I would fully recommend this set to all young children from the stated age of 1 years old upwards as it really is a great addition to any childs playtime.
