This is a brilliant addition to an existing wooden train set. The tower is filled with blue water ( or some type of liquid). When the spout is upright the tower is full, but if you lower the spout to give the train a drink the water level empties as if the train is really using it up. It definately adds a nice appearance to wooden train layout, and gives the children another activity when playing. My own sons have always quite enjoyed " feeding" their vehichles or giving them drinks so this has proved quite popular in our house.
For those of you who remember the recall of wooden Thomas products a couple of years back, I can assure you that I have checked carefully every item we own and none were on the recall list. It was primarly red paint that was affected anyway, and while this product has a bright red base and top of the water tank, they are both plastic, so need for worries.
The track itself has the characteristic stripes or railroad ties which lets you know this is a genuine Thomas the Tank item. It will however connect easily with most sets. As we have a wide mix of pieces in our layout, I can confirm that this will connect to other wooden Thomas, ELC, Brio, Tesco, Asda, and Ikea tracks without problem.
Another reviewer did mention that I should give more detail of my own opinion of the toys. Now how did she know I play with the trains too! Oh perhaps she meant my opinion as a parent, that's it, of course I dont really play with the toys myself - at least not unless the kids are playing too and I have an excuse :) Well my own opinion is that it is a lovely piece that adds character to the set. I also love the fact that it seems to be indestructable and has given my children hours and hours of fun. I've no hesitation in giving this the full five stars, it is a wonderful little toy.
