      A fantastic toy

Harold is the helicopter from the famous TV show and well loved children's program Thomas the tank engine and is my youngest son's favourite character in the show so for his first birthday in May we found this search and rescue helicopter and thought it would be perfect for him. We purchased him for his retail price at £19.99 from Amazon and I was so excited to see my sons face when he unwrapped him.

Harold is a like for like model on the character from the show and is a fair size not too big for young hands to hold but not to small as to disappoint my son. The Harold helicopter is made from solid plastic. On the front it has the friendly helicopters face and just below this is the search light. |On the bottom of Harold are his landing bars that steady the toy when it is sat on the floor or any other flat surface. On the top of the toy are the propellers which can be spun by little one and finally on the back is the most important part of the toy the handle and trigger button to set off all the functions of this toy.

When you press the trigger at the back his blades begin to spin and it makes the noise of a helicopter taking off this continues for the whole time the trigger is being held down. Also at the same time as this the light at the front of the helicopter lights up with a rather strong beam which can be used to search for lost engines or anything your child's imagination decides to do.

Around 5 seconds after the trigger is released the blades still spin and this is when the noises begin. Harold has around 6 different sayings that all change each time so little one never knows what to expect. They are said in the same voice from the TV show so the familiarity is there and this is my son's favourite part of the toy.

The handle is just the right size for little hands and is big enough to give support to whole toy and makes it very easy for little one to hold. There are grips so they can get a good hold on Harold without many times of dropping the toy. It has been dropped a good few times in pretend crashes and has held up very well there are no signs of wear or tear and it is very sturdy which is essential for play with toddlers.

There is a on off switch at the back of the toy and although this is not particularly that noisy every parent knows just how important it can be at the end of the night to turn all the toys off and relax to some piece and quiet. If you press the trigger while the toy is on off mode the propellers still spin but no noise or light is produced.

He is very easy to clean as his surface is plastic a wipe with a damp cloth brings him back to new which I think is essential as Harold is mainly white and as all parents will know white and young children just do not mix Harold often gets covered with chocolate or sticky hands so it is great he is so easy to clean.

My only down side is how fast the batteries run out we have only had this toy since May last year and already we have had to change the batteries twice. He does get constant use daily by 3 different children but still I think this is a little excessive considering it came with batteries supplied and we are using Duracell which normally fair rather well in our children's toys.

This toy is recommended from 18 months plus but we purchased this for our 1 year old son and he had no problems using it there are no small pieces and it is very simple to use so I see no problem in a younger child having it. It requires 2 AA batteries which are supplied when you first buy Harold.

Overall I would recommend this search and rescue Harold to anyone it has been a big hit with all 3 of my children who are 4 , 3 and 19 months and it is nice to find a Thomas the tank engine toy that is a little different from all the rest.
