All aboard!! Start your child on the right track with the Stop and Go Thomas and friends Wooden train set. Thomas the tank engine is an iconic little engine that has been loved by boys for decades. In fact, according to an article I read Thomas first appeared in 1946 in the second book in the series, Thomas the Tank Engine, and was the focus of the four short stories contained within. Thomas the Tank Engine is a fictional steam locomotive in The Railway Series books by the Reverend Wilbert Awdry and his son,Christopher. Now that I have a little boy one of the first things we got him was a train set and my first thought when it comes to trains was Thomas. To begin with we got her the train starter set which just consisted of 10 pieces of wooden track, a railroad crossing sign and Thomas and his baggage car. The thing I liked about this set was that it was a nice beginners set and allowed you to collect more pieces and bits of track in order to make it bigger and better. This is why we decided upon the stop and go set to add more excitement to our original set and make it a bit bigger and longer and contain more things on the train route. The stop and go set contains another 15 pieces of wooden track, a bridge, a station and a conductor. It also includes three more trains, another Thomas, a yellow fuel truck and a red freight train. The wooden track is really nice and thick and well made. It attaches together with holes on one end and a little round bit on the other end and they fit together just like a puzzle piece. On the track there is a printed design which makes the wood look more like a piece of track than just a piece of wood which is nice. Apparently the track is made out of sustainably sourced wood so this toy is good for the environment too. The Thomas train is authentic and great looking. Thomas is painted blue with red lining, and displays the running number one. The engine is plastic and has plastic wheels which fit into the grooves of the wooden tracks and so is easy to push around the tracks for little hands to do. Thomas has a big round magnet on the front and the back as do the other trains. I like that it is a magnet as you can pull the trains apart and play with them on different parts of the track and then play joining them together and have fun doing that. The bridge is a big hump back bridge with a brick design on it to make it look like a brick bridge and there are also some trees on it too. The station is great. It's just a small pass through station but it has a plastic red stop sign and a plastic green go sign and you can decide which you put up so the trains will know what to do. A great additional train set for Thomas lovers.
