Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom Magic Phone
by xmum2threex My little girl really wanted a phone for her birthday she loves role playing and copying anything that mummy does so rather than let her loose on my iphone I brought this Ben and holly's phone for £10 and I knew she would love it. Ben and holly is a program on nick Jr and also played on channel 5 and rather new for my little girl but she ... loves it all the same. The phone is a good size and rather chunky so little one can hold it easily and as it is made from solid plastic it is very durable. There is an aerial at the top of the phone that little one can lift up and put back down and although the buttons do not do anything as single buttons the whole pad they sit on is a large button and when the cartridges are inserted that it what makes the characters talk. The tabs are round circle cartridges and you receive 3 different character ones with them Ben, Holly and Nanny Plum all major characters in the program so well recognised by little one. They are bright fun and like for like with the characters from the TV program. They have a small tab at the top of them as to make it a little easier to insert and take out the disks when wanted. At the top of the phone is a circular transparent pain and this is where the picture from each of the disks shows. The cartridges are added into the top and then the phrases change for each of the different characters that are added. When you inset them in to the top of the phone and press the keypad button 2 things happen one the characters begin to move not a lot it is only tiny movement like holly's wings flap and bens mouth moves but it is still noticeable if you pay attention but this does not seem to interest my children maybe because it is such a small movement and not really noticeable until closer inspection. Also the characters say 4 phrases each they are all phrases that they say in the programme like holly says ' Hi Ben are you coming out to play? All the phrases are easily recognisable by any Ben and holly fan. The sound is not too loud but still loud enough for little one to hear it easily but without driving mum and dad crazy there is no volume control but as it is not over bearing this is not too bad. There is a small compartment at the back of the phone where you can store the cartridges which is good as they are small and would be lost easily in the hands of toddlers if there was no storage for them. My downside to this is the tabs can be rather annoying to insert and unless it is put in correctly the phone does not work so for a young child to do this when sometimes I struggle is very hard. For this reason it does not really get much use unless she leaves 1 character card in which is a shame when there are 3 to choose from. It has lasted well is made of plastic and very durable so it can withhold the rough play that my 3 year old little girl and 4 year old son give it. It has been dropped a number of times and banged around in the toy box and still works and no visible signs of damage. Over all it is a nice phone and a good concept but even for and older child that is nearly 5 to use it can be frustrating and for that reason it mainly sits in the toy box. Such a shame as it is well made other than that but as it is the features which were the appeal for purchase I am disappointed. It is recommended from 3 years plus and although I would not recommend it if you are purchasing for the movement of the pictures or the ease of using the cartridges for a simple play phone for a toddler it is good and sturdy and has lasted a year without being broken. Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom Fetch Stick Gaston
by helen190390 Ben and Holly's little kingdom is another of Hollie's favourite programmes to watch on Nick Jr. We usually watch it after the programmes on Cbeebies have started to get rubbish, and turn over to see what we can find. Whenever she hears the theme song at the beginning start up, she rushes around to get her spot right in front of the TV. ... ===============Who are Ben and Holly?============== Ben and Holly are characters in the programme "Ben and Holly's little kingdom" where Ben is an Elf and Holly is a Fairy. Holly's dad is King Thistle and live in the the little castle, and Ben lives with all the other elves in the great elf tree. Other characters include: Nanny Plum, Gaston the Lady Bird, Daisy and Poppy (Holly's sisters), The wise old Elf and King and Queen thistle. Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom was created by the same makers as Peppa Pig. If you watch Peppa pig religiously like in this house, you will notice they use the same voices for both programmes. =============Gaston the Ladybird toy================== Gaston is Ben and Holly's friend who barks. Ben flies on him as he can't fly whereas Holly can because she is a fairy!. He lives inside a big rock/hill which is dirty and smelly, just the way he likes it. The toy is a soft toy which does 2 different things: -------------------------------------------------------------------- *1. The first is in my pictures. You can lift back his red and black spots as they are stuck down with velcro, which uncovers his wings. My daughter sits on him all the time holding his antennas and shouts "Giddy up Gaston!!" *2. When you pull the stick in Gaston's mouth, it comes out on an elasticated fabric bound string which when you let go, he vibrates and barks. The reason I have this 4 stars instead of 5 was because when you do this, it lasts for about 2-3 seconds which isn't very stimulating for a young child when it is rather difficult to pull. his eyes are cheeks have been embroidered on and his antennas look like they are made from some sort of cording. His body and legs are made from soft woolen felt fabrics (best for the velcro), his spotty panels are made of silk with screen printed spots and his wings are made from organza. ================OPINIONS================= Hollie:: Hollie loves this toy, she gets him out everytime we are watching the programme and she also had a Ben and a Holly doll so she sits with them next to each other on the sofa. She also likes that she can pretend to fly on him!. My opinion:: I bought this in home Bargains for £3.99 as a small gift for Hollie in November. It is definitely the best bargain I have managed to get on toys as on Amazon it is £7.99!. Even the individual Ben and Holly cost me more and they are smaller and are just soft toys. If i'm honest, this toy isn't worth the £7.99 that is being charged on Amazon. It is probably more near the £4-5 mark. You cannot change batteries as the label states "This sound device is not replaceable once battery is exhausted. Average battery life 6 months, less if in constant use". As Hollie finds it hard to pull, lets hope it lasts longer than that!. Once it is exhausted, it will just be a soft toy which Hollie won't be so interested in. LABEL INFO:: Surface wash with warm water only. Do not put into washing machine as contains electrics. Golden bear toys goldenbeartoys.com www.littlekingdom.co.uk Made in China 2008. Golden Bear Peppa Pig Step N Learn Playmat
by xtinkersx Going through the Argos book for Christmas presents is one of my favorite things to do. Last christmas (2009) I was after Peppa Pig things as both my children had grown to love it over the last year. I also wanted learning toys as my daughter would be starting nursery and thought if she had things she loved plus the addition of learning ... this would be fun for her. So I came across the Peppa Pig page in the catalogue and saw this step and learn mat. The description made it sound perfect -"This electronic playmat features 4 fun modes for lots of fun learning including numbers, find, colours and names. Answer the questions by stepping on the correct images. The mat features many of the characters from the programme and over 50 phrases for hours and hours of fun." Sounds great doesnt it for the cost £30 I did have to alter a few things from the gift list as most things were £20 and under. Off to Argos I went. I ordered the item when it came down even the box made me excited! A very brightly coloured-large-box with the mat on and pictures of it being played and a small explanation of what it does. Wrapped it and waited for Christmas day to arrive. When it did and my daughter opened this she was over the moon to see Peppa Pig and wanted it open. I then saw on the box in tiny letters that it needed batteries-when I checked in the catalogue it did state it does NOT need them one reason for me picking it! Christmas day and needing batteries does not go together. So it went away until Boxing day. Opened it-not packaged inside just folded up so no fussy plastic ties and packaging. Put batteries in and laid it on the floor. The mat is PVC and very rustly. At the top there is a small blue speaker and next to it a very tiny button which doesnt say anything on it near it but when pressed this turns on the mat. It starts off with the Peppa theme tune and Daddy pig saying "are you ready" Yes daddy pig "then off we go". The picture on the mat is a park scene with Grandpa on his boat, Miss Rabbit and pedro pony in her balloon, Suzie sheep in the tree house, Grandma pig, emily elephant, zoe zebra and candy cat in the train, Danny dog in the castle Daddy pig in his car, Peppa in the middle jumping in muddle puddles and Mummy Pig and George at the bottom. On each of the characters there is a shape with a number in , i.e. on Peppa theres a BLUE CIRCLE with the number ONE in. Along the bottom theres a pond with 4 cirlces with the different modes in- Colour shape, Where, Fun sounds and characters. You "step" on these to change modes. This mat got very creased very quickly -after first play- so now it looks a bit tatty. You dont know if the mats on or off without stepping on it and I dont think the button at the top turns it off it just re starts it. It is VERY basic -"wheres the red star?" "Where is Suzy Sheep?" which then reponds with "well done you are very clever" or "Try Again" and repeats the question. After the first day of playing my kids have found another use for it-a picnic mat for their pretend picnics! This honestly was the worst present they got for christmas its boring and the sounds very rubbish also-sounds 'fake' and tinny. Wish I had never bothered as the description I found was just mis leading. Read the complete review |
