Radica Games Cube World Game Cubes

When I first saw these in the Argos catologue, I thought, oh no, another tamagotchi kind of craze was looming. I didn't realise that a year later I would be unable to resist buying myself some.
These colourful little boxes and interactive men that you can play with. You can buy them in sets or individually, and they come in ... a rather overpackaged plastic casing. This isn't ideal, and is quite tough to get into, especially for kids so have the scissors at the ready.
Each box has a different character, and each character has a game on their box. This is quite a nice touch, even though the games are quite easy and repetitive. The best thing, and probably the main selling point about these is that you can stick them together and they will interact and cross over between screens. You can also move the boxes and they will respond. The more you have of these the better they are I suppose, so you should be advised that just one isn't such fun... You can also buy large boxes which have more features, and both kinda handily switch off after they aren't being used so they are actually good at conserving battery life.
Originally these were extortionately priced at around the £20 mark, although recently I have seen them at almost a quarter of that price in the Entertainer toy shop. These are great for kids and adults alike. They would even make a nice addition to a family area so you can all have your own box and see how they get on! Read the complete review |

What are these silly little box's?
That's what i thought when i saw these tiny boxes and the Price but my son has got lots of enjoyment out of them i no longer mind buying them.
What are these little boxes?
These are little tiny worlds which include stick men who you can interact with. On the market today you will ... find the following, they come in a pack of 2 for approx £19.99.
Series One
Slim and Dodger
Whip and Scoop
Series Two
Handy & Dusty
Mic & Hans
Series Three
Toner & Dash
Chief & Sparky
My son has both sets from Series One, so they are what my review is about. Also Series work together. We have brought him Handy & Dusty for Christmas.
Each stick person and its world has its own personality and identity, they work on their own or you can connect them together and they will interact with each other and they visit each others box's, its cool to watch what happens. I also like turning the box's upside down as the stick person falls, sorry have a silly sense of humour. You can really wind the stick people up by shaking them too and seeing there reaction.
Each one also includes a game which you can play and try and reach a higher score.
Also don't forget they are just not for young lads but for the grown adults too, my husband took my sons into work and they went down a storm. I also like pestering the stick people just to see what they will do. So a great little pressie for the young or old.
If they are left on and no-one plays with them, they will switch off saving the batteries.
The only down size is for £19.99 i think they are a bit overpriced, hopefully this will come down soon. Ideal price for these would be £12.99.
My son just loves his little stick men and all his friends want to have a go when they come round. Read the complete review |

Radica Games Mood Beams
by Donnabroom
I got a little carried away with my online shopping this month, (I had to buy mother's day present, birthday presents and my Birthday present from my Dad as I finally replaced the money he gave me in January). I ended up wanting to buy thing from various sites and decided to order more each time to make my order up to the value so I ... would get free delivery. (Well that's my excuse anyway)!
One of the purchases I made was "Mood Beam". Mood beams are little rubber creatures about 9cm tall and 8cm wide. (They vary a bit as they are available different shapes but those measurements are for my one which is the second one in the picture). The rubber they are made out of is translucent and white in colour and the Mood Beams have painted on black eyes and some styles have mouths as well.
There are 8 different styles each of which have a primary and secondary colour, (for the lights inside), this affects the colours that will be displayed during some of the modes. The Mood Beams available and their primary/secondary colours are:
1) Shy - red/orange (this is the one I have)
2) Surprised - yellow/green (my housemate has this one)
3) Curious - purple/red
4) Silly - green/blue
5) Chillin' - orange/red
6) Puzzled - blue/purple
7) Love Struck - red/purple
8) Smiley - yellow/orange
One of the negatives of this range is that you can't pick the one you want. I want to get all 8 so I will probably get duplicates. I am sure though, if you wait a few months they will be on eBay individually.
Inside the Mood Beam are different coloured lights. They have several modes that you can switch between by pressing a little button on the base of your Mood Beam or by "patting" their heads. The modes are as follows (in order):
1) Off - The Mood Beam is off
2) Heartbeat - The Mood Beam glows in the primary colour and occasionally, (about every 2-3 seconds), in it's secondary colour.
3) Rainbow - The Mood Beam cycles through all of the colours, red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. This is my favourite cycle and I have taken to watching my Mood Beam as I drift off to sleep and I have found it is helping me clear my mind so I can get to sleep easier.
4) Strobe - This flashes a clear light on and off really quickly like in a club. I don't really like this mode but use it at parties.
5) Colour Dance - This is a set pattern of colour changes.
6) Colour Hold - The Mood Beam will glow in it's primary colour.
7) Beat Sensor - This is such a cool one - the Mood Beam flashes on and off it's in primary colour to sound. It is fun to put them near your speakers and play music at them. This works better if you have something with a good beat and not too much ambient music. I have found the White Stripes are very good for this.
In any of the modes if the Mood Beam is inactive for 10 minutes it will switch off.
To switch between the modes you can press the button on the bottom of the Mood Beam on pat his head with the exception of Beat Sensor. To access Beat Sensor you must hold down the button on the bottom for 2 seconds.
When you first get the Mood Beam you must use a blunt pokey object to press the reset switch on the base as he will come set in display mode. (You cannot access display mode again).
The batteries are behind a screw on panel. The Mood Beams take 3 AAA batteries and they come with a set inside. To replace these batteries you need to unscrew the panel with a small cross-head screwdriver, replace the batteries and screw the panel back on. I have not changed the batteries yet so I do not know how long they last but the panel is a little fiddly to get off.
Mood Beams are made by Radica and comes with a 6 month product warranty, (valid in the UK only). As I have not had any problems with my Mood Beam I do not know how the service is for this warranty. The address, phone number and URL for Radica are:

These flash so there is warning for people with epilepsy or who are sensitive to flashing lights or patterns of lights.
I love my Mood Beam and I am so glad I got one. I was really lucky and I got the one I wanted as well. When I got mine and showed it to my housemate he liked it so much he went straight online and ordered himself one! They are strangely calming to watch and especially captivating when flashing to music, (ooh err), and everyone I have shown loves them. For the price, (see below), I think these are great value and I will definitely be getting more in the future. A lot of people will have these from me as pressies from now on too.
