My eldest daughter has got the Disney Princess torch and my youngest daughter has started showing an interest in it so when I was in B & M I decided to see if they had a character torch that she would like too, they sell a wide range of characters but as soon as I saw Mickey Mouse I knew this was the ideal torch. The torch cost me £2.99 which seems a decent price for a character item and I was quite impressed that the price hadn't increased since buying Sophie's torch as everything seems to be going up in price right now.
The torch came packaged on a brightly coloured piece of card with the torch sitting against it and then a see through piece of moulded plastic around the front of the torch to protect it. The torch is pretty easy to open and you just need to get a nail or end of a blunt object underneath a bit of the plastic and then pull it away from the cardboard.
The torch is cylindrical in shape but tapers so it is slightly narrower at the bottom than at the top, the torch is coloured boldly in mainly red, yellow and blue and has a sliding yellow switch on the side to turn it on and off. The torch has a nice picture of Mickey Mouse on it and he looks really happy and friendly, as soon as I showed Emily her torch she screamed mouse at me and was rather excited.
Emily loves playing with her torch, we have had to teach her that she is not to shine it in peoples eyes as she was just flinging it around and shining it all over to begin with. We use her torch to make shadows on her bedroom wall which she finds hilarious and he and her sister play dens under the table and each have their torches for light.
The torch is suitable for ages 3 and up however Emily is not quite 3 yet but once we taught her what she can and can't do with the torch she plays with it happily and has no problem working it herself. The Torch takes 2 x AAA batteries but the battery life on the torch is excellent so we haven't had to change them in this torch yet.
Emily loves her torch and we keep telling her she can only have it now because she is a big girl to which she is pretty impressed, the torch is decent quality as it has been dropped a few times but there is no damage and the bulb is still in one piece and working. The torch I would say is probably more designed for a boy than a girl but as Mickey Mouse and his friends are Emily's new favourite programme she loves it.
My husband picked this Mickey Mouse torch up for our son in the £ shop just after Christmas. The torch came wrap in plastic and cardboard packaging that was easy to get into, for a change and required 2 AAA batteries, which you put in the top of the torch by unscrewing it. The weight of the torch is not too much and my son, who is 2.5 years has no problems using it.
It is fairly durable and is often dropped on the floor. It is made from hard, brightly colour plastic and the on/off switch is well positioned to allow my son to use it easily. The torch has a very bright LED bulb, which am not sure I will be able to replace, but for only £, it will probably outlive its usefulness before the bulb goes.
My son uses the torch to pretend he is going camping, and gets into his house tent to play, its bulb is strong and makes a good pattern on the wall or floor that he can follow, though try and be careful that you do not flash it in peoples eyes, due to the strength of the bulb.
Overall this is a great little torch that is easy to use, is not too heavy and has provided my son with hours of play and for the price it is a bargain, I would recommend to others.
I picked this up for my son in our local Poundshop as he was obsessed by my cheap torch from Tesco and I decided this one was a little more child friendly and it meant my emergency one would stay where I knew where it was! Of course I paid £1 for it but I have no illusions that there are probably many places where this would cost much more, for the price I paid I am more than happy with it.
The torch comes in a plastic bubble that is backed onto a simple piece of cardboard. It was easy enough to open and once out you can feel a lightweight piece of plastic, once you add the 2 AAA batteries it does become a little heavier but not uncomfortably so and definitely not heavy enough that my son struggles to hold it for any extended period of time. It does feel rather cheap made but for the price I didn't really expect much, in all honesty it feels exactly the same as a cheap torch I picked up in Asda for around 70p however the attraction of this was the character and the bright colours. The torch is very brightly coloured and appealing for children, the background is a blue sky with a picture of mickey mouse. The top which holds the bulb is red and is easy to screw on and off, the bottom of the handle holds the on/off switch. The handle is slim yet chunky enough for my son to easily hold comfortably in his hand.
The on/off switch is very effective and works first time, every time. The bulb is rather strong and I wouldn't advise looking at it directly as it could hurt your eyes, I specified to my son that he could only use it to point away from his face and he has done really well with this. The torches brightness lasts pretty well, my son has used it pretty regularly for the last few months and I have only just changed the batteries which I think is pretty good, I should specify that the batteries I use are the cheap ones you get in the pound shop around 10 in a pack so even better value really. When it starts to run out it does go very quickly from full brightness to almost nothing and gives an orange glow to it rather than the bright white light when new batteries are inserted.
The torch is pretty durable, my son has dropped it and my friends little boy has chomped on it and it's still in perfect condition, I have also heard a heavy clunk where it's been thrown in frustration so although it looks rather delicate it is by no means so. My son loves going around with his torch in the dark and looking at the ceiling and following the glow around. For £1 I think this is certainly worth it and I wouldn't hesitate to replace it if the need arose. The batteries are long lasting, the torch itself is durable and it's appealing to children, what more can you really ask for?
~*~*~ Disney Mickey Mouse LED Torch ~*~*~
~ What is it? ~
This is a small child friendly torch with a simple on/off switch at the top.
~ Why I bought it ~
I bought this as a simple stocking filler for my son after I saw them for 99p in my local B&M store. It came on a simple card backed sheet with a clear plastic piece protecting the torch. The colours are nice and bright and it is an ideal size for a child. It is very little but cute.
~ My Thoughts ~
I didn't test this before use, I simply wrapped it up and placed it in the bag of stocking fillers I do for each child to make my life that little bit easier!
When my son opened his stocking he was quite pleased to find a torch but it was soon forgotton about when he came downstairs to open his bigger presents, however later that night he asked for the torch so he could look at one of his books in bed. I dug it out, unscrewed the top and popped in two AAA batteries. I was shocked by quite how bright the single LED bulb was and he loved it, he took it up to bed with him along with his book and lay under his blanket looking at the book by the light of the torch.
This carried on for a while and the batteries lasted really well in it, in fact over the year we have only changed them two or three times which I think is pretty good.
The torch is coloured in blue and red and is covered in Mickey Mouse prints in nice bright colours. Despite it only being a childs toy and the cheap price is is actually quite strong as he still uses it now and it shows no signs of wear. It was even taken on holiday with us and survived that too!
It's quite bright for a single bulb and it's great for children.
The torch is small which makes it great for little hands to hold and it stands at just 13cm high.
Checking Amazon I can see that this is available for £1.18 with a delivery charge of £1.29 and whilst this is a good price you can see that I picked it up for under £1 so it may be worth looking around.
Thanks for reading :o) x
