Advantages: Fun to play with

Disadvantages: works better on hard surfaces or short haired carpet

This is a must have toy for any Doctor Who fan and especially fans of the Daleks. I bought this for my partner last Christmas. He is a huge fan of Doctor Who and like a child his eye lit up when he saw the Dalek.

The Dalek stands at 1 inches high and is sprayed a dark metallic gold just like the ones in the show, the Dalek also has all it usual features such as the projected energy weapon, multi function sucker and its eye piece. The eye piece and speech lights even light up when it is fully functional so it is very similar to a real Dalek although slightly smaller.

Although this Dalek looks like any other remote control Dalek it has a unique feature in the fact you don't have to use the remote control at all, all you have to do is set it to ON instead of R/C and the Dalek will power it self up and check its weapons and eye piece is intact and that all systems are fully functional if they are not it will soon let you know and get angry and agitated until you fix the problem and then it will work and move on its own.

To make the Dalek move on its own you first have to press one of the buttons on his front and give it commands which are listed in the instruction book which is provided with it.
There are many commands such as Seek, Locate and Destroy, Follow me and many others, once one of the commands is given the Dalek will reply its own unique way and will start to move around the room carrying out its mission.

The Dalek moves around the room on the three wheels on the base and it also uses a sensor built into it to locate walls other objects and people and will stop it from bumping in to things and enables it to exterminate people in its path. There is also an option where you can give set battle instructions yourself to the Dalek and it will carry them out and will not stop until they are fulfilled.

If you are not satisfied with trying to take over the universe with your Dalek there is also an in built game which involves many people sitting around and the Dalek will exterminate any one who he dislikes (a good way to destroy your enemies).

If you want to use the remote control you first set the Dalek to R/C and then use the remote to move around and press the voice button on the control and the Dalek will say set phrases, this is an easy way to get used to your Dalek but not as much fun as letting it go on its own.

The Dalek unit runs on 4 D size batteries and 4 AA size batteries and the remote control uses 4 AA size batteries, the Dalek also comes in a Doctor Who decorative box and comes with an instruction book which should be read first to get the most out of your Dalek.

I would highly recommend this unique toy to anyone of any age but for younger people its best to have an adult around as some parts are removable and can be easily choked on.

There is only one fault with this toy and that as all Fans of the Daleks know that the Daleks can levitate and this one can't but if they ever make one that can do everything and float I will definitely be buying one.

But to all Doctor Who fans this is a must have toy and is an ideal present for Christmas, I purchased this one for my partner last year at a hefty price of £52. There are few out there with different features ranging in price this one however does seem to surpass the quality of those - due to it being voice activated, remote controlled and it moves better on carpet than the cheaper versions. My partner does have the £39.99 and £19.99 versions and likes them all, I have now put my foot down and said one has to go, this will be the one that stays and it's the biggest too!

To see how this works, take a look at this video I found on ---you tube--- http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=MYqvb63TL7k&feat ure=related

Summary: A fantastic buy!
