The Early Learning Centre's Jungle Beats musical instruments set is fantastic for young children.
Unlike other childrens instruments I have seen it has a fun design with each instrument being an animal.
The instruments included in the set are:
A drum - Unfortunately this is the only part of the set that doesn't look like an animal. It is a light blue colour with a white area where you hit. Like the rest of the set it is plastic. There are two green drumsticks which you can hit from either end and when being hit it is quite noisy like a lot of drums. It does depend on how heavy handed the child is.
Two castanets - These two are frogs, not my favourite animal in the set, and not one children pick very often. The children find it quite difficult to use these so usually get fed up quickly. Maybe they need to develop their fine manipulative skills further before they can fully appreciate the instrument. They are rather quiet for instruments but maybe it's because the children can't always use them properly. They are small, plastic and brightly coloured. If I hadn't read the box I'm not sure if I'd have recognized them as frogs.
Two maraccas - These instruments are favourites among the children. You can clearly tell they are parrots and the bright colours attracts children to them. They are quite noisy, just what children prefer, and keep them entertained for ages. They are made of plastic and have a handle which is the right size for childrens little hands.
A tambourine - This is my favorite instrument. It has a great look of a monkey which is red and yellow plastic. It is not too noisy but not too quiet and one the children enjoy to play with. It's a shame there's only one.
This set is a great, but noisy, set children love playing with (and that's all that matters). They are made from strong plastic which has no signs of wear although they have been dropped numerous times. No scratches or cracks at all.
It helps children develop their manipulative skills and creativity and imagination. The age recommended is over 12 months but I have used these with children up to five. I also don't see why you couldn't use them under 12 months as long as they are supervised and not given the tambourine (they could get their fingers stuck).
You can buy this set from early learning centre for £18. I think this is quite expensive, but when you see them you won't be able to resist.
A great buy and one that will last a long time. Bold colours and fun animal designs everyone will love, whether it's a little girl or boy. It is not aimed at either gender, unlike a lot of toys nowadays. Enjoyable for children and adults can join in too. Who can make a great jungle beat. The best thing by far is the look (so cute).
