Advantages: Talks, Sings, Sits, Stands, Tells Stories, Tells jokes, Helped Scarlet with Words

Disadvantages: Expensive, Broke Easily as Arms are Weak.

As Scarlet was only going to be 8 months old last Christmas I was really struggling on what to get her. She didn't really watch any Childrens programmes as she was far too young and I wasn't sure on what toys she would benefit from. That was until she saw my Landlady's little boys birthday present.

Seaseme Street has been around now for about 40 years with me remembering them from my childhood. One thing I distinctly remember is being envious of my friend who had the Tickle Me Elmo. I was so green with jealousy but this never resulted in me actually having any of the toys myself. My favorite were the Cookie Monster and of course Elmo. Mr Kimbles loved it aswell when he was a little boy and his mum said he had loads of the Big Bird toys.

Fisher Price is a very well known brand that have again been around for years. As myself and Mr Kimbles have had their toys over the years plus Scarlet already has some Fisher Price toys I thought why not. I already knew they were value for money and most of the time very sturdy, so off to Argos I went to buy one for her.

Fisher price recommend Elmo Live for 18 months plus but I made sure it had no really small bits she could put in her mouth or any bits that could break off easily and it seemed ok. Elmo live itself is quite a tall standing (approximately 12 inches in height) plastic toy covered in red furr and of course looking excatly like Elmo from Seaseme Street with his orange nose and real white eyes. With the live version he comes with his own little blue seat.

He has four press points on his body, one on his nose, his chest, his back and on his right foot. When each one in turn is pressed he really does comes to life. He can open his mouth to talk, laugh, sneeze and sing. He waves his arms, sits, stands and even crosses his legs.

When his nose is pressed he sneezes, laughs and talks. The one on his foot makes him tells stories (scarlet's favortie is about Elmo and the tall giant). The one on his chest makes him sing and dance and the one on his back makes him tell jokes. As he tells stories he sits on his stool but I find if you don't position him correctly he will fall over. He then tells you to pick him and once he is up right he will explain you are now his best friend.

For £55.00 I thought this would get so much use and even though Scarlet was only 8 months old at the time I knew she would love him after already loving the one she had seen. As she opened her present on Christmas day last year I was so pleased when she got so excited as soon as she saw him. She spent the next hour hugging and kissing him.

As she was still so young Mr Kimbles and myself helped her with using him. But she used to sit for hours in her Bebepod watching him tell stories. I found that he helped her with noises and even understand some words. She certainly picked up 'oopps' off him and she has been saying this ever since when she falls over, drops anything or is being a little monkey.

As she has got older and can now work him herself I have found that she still loves him just as much. The only downside I have found with him is that his arms are only thin, also being full of wires and have in our case easily broken. I am at the moment on the hunt for another one (hopefully cheaper) as she misses him so much and carries him around anyway.

I would recommend him for any parent but advise to be careful with him as even on ebay he is still really expensive and as we have found his arm wires break easily leaving a dissapointed monkey.

Summary: I don't regret buying him but wish he didn't break so easy.
