Fisher Price - Go Baby Go - Stand and Go Giraffe

During a boring trip to Argos to get lots of bits and bobs for the home I thought I would treat Jack to a new toy! Not that he really needed it but I felt bad for dragging him all the way to Argos and being cooped up in the car for the afternoon. Guilt is of course pricey and I found myself spending nearly £25 on this Fisher Price toy.

On getting home it was pretty easy to fit together there were only a few pieces and four screws that needed securing but the whole thing took literally five minutes to assemble. There were basic instructions to go along with the assembly but these were not really needed and although we did look at them I think you could fix it together without them. There were however simple to read and easy to follow.

The Stand and Go Giraffe stands at about half a meter high and is bright yellow in colour. The Giraffes ears are handles coloured blue and green. There is a slide coming all the way down from the Giraffes open mouth to the bottom. You are able to put balls into the wide-open mouth and they roll through the mouth and down the slide into a hidden compartment at the bottom. This compartment has four different openings positioned at the corners and the balls will randomly fall into one of these openings and come out into a pocket where you can again pick the ball up and post it through the mouth again.

The Stand and Go giraffe comes with three separate balls in different colours, a red one a blue one and a green one. I thought we were one missing as there are four openings with pockets in colours red, blue, green and purple. So I was surprised that there was not a purple ball to go along with the other ones.

When you post a ball through the Giraffes mouth there is a button on the inside top part of the mouth that activates a really funny noise as the ball is posted through. Pressing a large flashing button on top of the Giraffes head can also activate the noise. There are three different noises that are made when the button is pressed but only one noise will be heard by putting the ball into the mouth which I find strange as I would of thought that the three sounds would just alternate al the time.

On top of the Giraffes head along with the handle ears and the flashing noise button there are also two spinning balls that are stuck into the head and these are coloured red and purple. When Jack is standing up holding on to the ears he is able to spin these balls around but as they are pretty simple this does not keep him occupied for very long.

Jack does love posting the balls in to the Giraffes mouth and hearing the crazy sound as the ball rolls round and down the slide. He finds it funny when the ball disappears and then pops out of one of the four different openings. At first he found it hard to fit the ball into the mouth without his little chubby fingers getting in the way but now it seems that he has mastered the fact he needs to get his fingers out of the way for the ball to be able to fit into the mouth.

He can stand up and hold on to the Giraffes ears but I find on the whole the Giraffe is not very sturdy. I would of thought that there would be some sort of weight positioned at the bottom so that it would steady the Giraffe and keep it in place but this is not the case. When I see Jack trying to stand up and holding onto the ears I have to hold the giraffe down so that it doesn't tipple over. Jack however is a big heavy boy so maybe this is not the case for lighter smaller babies.

All in all though I do think this toy is pretty good. I don't think it really has am educational value but Jack seems to really enjoy it. The whole thing seems pretty hardwearing and I certainly think it was worth the £24.99 pence that I paid for it. It is a shame there is not four balls instead of three and I wish it was a little sturdier so that Jack could pull himself up without me having to press down on the base of the toy. He laughs at the finny noises however and he loves posting the balls through the Giraffes mouth and seeing the balls roll down the slide.

I would say this is a good toy and I will award a total of 7/10. I did see a similar toy to this for a little bit more money where the balls are thrown out of the top of the toy instead of rolling down and I wish I could see this one in action to know if it is better than the Stand and Go Giraffe. However I am happy with my purchase and do believe it will last of for our next child too. Lets just hope I don't loose the balls in the mean time.

I hope this has been of some help to you. Thanks for reading.

My son had the last version of this (stand up ball blast) and loved it! It did rock a bit tho when he stood up with it but never to the point that I thought it would fall over. xx
