“ Brand: Radica Games / Age: 5 Years+ „
I bought this digimakeover game for my daughter about three Christmases ago. I paid around £60 for this toy, which on reflection was a lot of money and slightly more than what I feel the toy was worth. I bought this digimakeover from Argos.
Now even though it was only three years ago when I bought this for my daughter. I think that this toy would not be as widely appreciated today. For the simple reason that where as this was a novel and intresting idea, this type of game is accesible now through internet sites and therefore would not offer anything new or exciting.
Firstly when we had this toy, it took as absolute age to read the instructuions. Which in all honesty made us more confused than before we started. However, this digimakeover consoul is very easy to use. And soon my daughter who was 7 at the time was operating the game with ease.
You have to connect this small hand held set to the television. Once tuned in , you will have the chance to take a photo of yourself or friend using the built in digital camera. You have to ensure that the photo is clear and central to the screen. If you do not wish to use a photo of yourself there are optional pictures of models that you can use.
Once your picture is on the screen, it is then that the fun begins. You have the opportunity by accesing different menu's to change make up, hairstyles and accessories. So if you have ever wondered what you would look like with an afro or a bob then this will allow you to see.
I was impressed with the quality of the toy. It has a great list of hairstyles and makeup to choose from to prevent boredom. I also liked the way in which you could operate the heaviness or lightness of the makeup by tapping the built in pen on the game pad.
Once you were satisfied with your makeover picture, you then have the opportunity to save it onto the game memory. So that you can show your mates later. I believe the game has the memory to hold up to ten photos.
Apart from the makeover aspect of the game. There is also an option to use a number of fun and innovative screen frames. For instance there was one photo of a spaceman and you can then put your photo into the spacemask so it looks as if it's you. All great fun!!!
As I mentioned at the beginning of this review. I would not entertain the idea of buying this toy now. It is outdated and the very same sort of games can be accessed on a number of websites. Although, in truth, this game was a real success when my daughter had it around three years ago. seeing a photo of my 82 year old nan with an afro really made my daughters day and certainly gave us all a chuckle over the festive period.
I don't think this toy has much long term use. Once it has been used a few times. the novelty wears of. Although this toy was used continually over Christmas, she never hardly played with it after. No more than once or twice.
So in reflection, a good novelty toy. But for £60 I think we payed far too much. However I would strongly advise again, that you wouldn't buy this game now as similar games are free on the internet.
