Leap Frog Melody Block
I am truly a big kid at heart and although Jack is only 9 weeks old I have already got a large collection of toys for him that I have been playing with a lot and he just seems to cry at. However this melody block from leap frog is one he is already enjoying.
I initially saw it in Woolworth’s for £10.99p but after browsing the toy section on Amazon found it there for £9.99p. It states that the melody block is suitable from birth so I added it to my ever increasing virtual shopping basket and because I spent over £15 the postage was free.
It arrived with a few days and I couldn’t wait to get it out and see how Jack responded to it. On the front of the box it states that this toy won the Mother & Baby gold award for 2006/7 for best newborn toy for 0-6 month olds and of course this really does make one think it’s a good toy to have.
The melody block introduces rhymes, rhythms, animal names and colours. The toy itself is basically like a large dice that is soft and has different colours and animals on each side. When the dice is rolled the tune matching the side that has landed face up will play. Very simple but very amusing.
The instructions for this melody block boat the fact that there are three ways to play and they are the fact that each side plays a different rhythm, each side plays a different rhyme and tactile activities encourage exploration. For babies the toy is really used for playing he songs to them and letting them hear the different music styles that are – African, Hawaiian, Caribbean, Asian, Latin and Classical. Toddlers who are able to roll the block themselves are able to place the animal picture with the music when they see the topside of the block.
The block is said to promote different types of learning skills such as; Physical – the soft textures and bright colours encourage baby to touch and explore. Gross Motor – rolling the block on the floor encourages gross motor development. Social and Emotional – character faces attract and engage baby, helping to encourage early social interaction.
The different sides to the block are:
A yellow Lion with a crinkly mane and its own song.
A blue fish with shiny scales and its own rhyme.
A red fox that hides in its hole and a matching tune.
A purple side with a silver mirror moon with a related song.
A white polar bear with a black and white side again with tune.
Green leaves that open and close hide behind a green parrot.
The music and songs that play for each of the different sides relate to the pictures on that particular face. The tunes are very catchy and the music sounds like a proper tune rather than the usual tinny sounds that come from toys. I can often be found walking round Tesco’s singing…yellow lion in the African sun tickling your mane is really fun…I of course get some funny looks but it makes Jack smile so its worth people thinking I’m mad.
All in all this toy is really great for the low price of ten pounds I think it was a total bargain. I enjoy playing with it and Jack loves listening to all the different sounds. The batteries are included but may need replacing depending how much use in demonstration it has had. It takes 3xAA ones so not too expensive to replace. The instruction leaflet that comes with the toy gives everything you would need to know and more.
I would rate this product as a brilliant 10/10. It is well worth the money paid and I will surely gets months of play from it.
Summary: a great toy for your kids
