Advantages: A great toy for travel and groups to enjoy, especially kids.
Disadvantages: Doesn't get it right all the time and relies on your answers being acurate.
My daughters have one these toys and it is really great fun.
I've found it works really well when you are in a group and it certainly passes the time in a fun way during a journey or a get together.
Kids will love this toy as it seemingly and magically is able to read someone's mind in twenty questions.
Even adults will think its clever, evening knowing that is uses a series of questions to keep on narrowing down the possible answers depending on your 'yes', 'no', 'unknown' or 'sometimes' answers from a large database of 'things', people or objects it has stored in its memory. you can also 'undo' if you answer incorrectly or want to change your mind.
The 20Q is round and about 3 inches wide with a little LCD screen and buttons (see the photo). It will fit in a pocket so is portable, has a back light for the screen to play in low light.
So, if you want an idea of how this works, I have the 20Q with me as I write this review and will go through the game.
So, let's choose something for it to guess.
I'll choose a 'pencil' this time.
It asks if I am ready - Yes!

Question 11 - Do you hold it when you use it? - Yes
Question 12 - Is it made of metal? - No

... So then it thinks, and gives you your answer...
" Is it a pencil lead?"...
Well, close enough. But not exactly right. I was thinking of a wooden pencil really, but I suppose I could have answered slightly differently if taking into account a plastic or metal pencil with pencil leads inside etc.
I'm sure if I repeated the process and answered slightly differently in some of my answers it would have guesses correctly.
Overall, it does get things right more often than it doesn't and kids will enjoy asking others to think of something and controlling the 20Q. It's a fun toy as long as you are willing to play along with it and accept it's not really a mind reader!
Summary: A nice toy that can seem to read your mind!
