Advantages: kids love it

Disadvantages: It flies and makes a horrible noise

The monkey back flying monkey was my nephews favourite toy of xmas 2008 and the one that the adults are most likely to sneak into the bucket when he is not looking.

The monkey looks pretty cute with his soft plush body and superhero cape and mask, from first appearances you can't tell how much chaos this little chap can cause. He has hidden pockets in his hands and you put your fingers into them and pull on his lower body to make his elasticated arms stretch. When you let go he goes flying across the room landing with a massive thud. He can fly across a room gaining enough momentum to hit the ceiling and damge your light fittings or can go several meters outside.

Now a flying toy is annoying enough on its own, after all flying toys have the scope to knock things over and cause injury to people but this furry little fellow also makes a noise. The makers claim it is a monkey noise but I'm not too sure, it certainly is a realistic noise but I think it's more like a squaking seagul. I've just asked my daughter what she thinks he sounds like and she said an owl on drugs or a cockerel with a sore throat. Whatever the noise is it is extremely loud and will soon drive you insane. The noise box can also be triggered by hitting the poor little monkey or slamming him down on a hard surface.

Monkey is available for just £4.99 from Hawkins Bazaar and I've also noticed that they have a flying pig. Despite his cheapness, he is an exceptionally sturdy toy, despite being catapulted about the house and garden for a few weeks now he shows no signs of being damaged or his batteries running down.

I wouldn't recommend buying monkey for your own kids if you value your sanity and dont want to spend hours shouting at your kids to not play with monkey in the house. His noisy cry will go right through you in the same way that nails on a blackboard will. This is one to buy for a kid whose parents you can't stand with the added bonus of gaining cool points from any kid you give one too.

Summary: Buy it for a kid whose parents you dont like
