I have mixed feelings about Nerf. On the one hand they are brilliant for rainy days. Indoor Nerf wars are a staple in our house over the winter. It gives the children some physical activity in the worst of weather and plenty of fun. They are expensive, but when Nerf works it is grand. Unfortunately we have so many Nerf products that don't work properly that the phrase "It's Nerfed" in our home would translate pretty closely to a similar but less suitable for print phrase. However, this is one of the products Nerf seems to have gotten right for the most part. This can unleash a storm of darts, shooting 144 darts ( if you have larger clips - not included) in a matter of minutes with more force than most Nerf guns ( meaning this can be a bit sore at close range for younger children or moaning husbands). This uses 4 AA batteries which is far easier to cope with than the C batteries used by many Nerf guns. This works very well and we have had no problems with jamming with 6 dart clips. My son uses this with the smaller 6 dart clips which hold 8 darts each. The set only comes with 4 clips, but he did have two others. However if you want to be able to shoot 144 darts you will need to buy 6 Nerf Elite Darts - 18 Clip at a price of nearly £10 each. The gun itself is currently £27.99 but I got it for a few pounds less with my beloved Amazon Warehouse Deals. But add £60 for clips and you have a very expensive product indeed. There have also been some reports of this gun jamming with the larger clips, but I can not say personally. I do feel the shoots 144 darts bit is a bit of a gimmick though as most people will not be able to add this many extra clips. This only comes with 254 darts. We were lucky that my son did have two more clips for this, but otherwise most children are going to want to be able to use all six which means you will need to pay for more darts and clips. A Nerf refill clip set will give two extra small clips and 24 more darts for roughly £21. You are still apt to need another separate pack of darts - so add another £6 in. This does get expensive. I would also note that this only shoots the blue elite darts. Other ones have caused jams. Nerf does this every now and then - switch the darts so you have to buy new instead of reusing your old ones. This does however work with the N-Strike clip as long as you only load Elite darts into it. My son's comments: I like this because it is really big. It also shoots a lot of darts so I always have far more ammo than my dad has. This is semi auto which means I don't waste shots, but I still fire off quite a few very quickly. Switching from one clip to another in a Nerf fight only takes a couple of seconds, and handle the makes it easy to run and shoot with. The only things I do not like about this gun are that it takes a long to load all of the clips, and shooting so many bullets means clean up takes longer as well. I also think this should have come with six clips since you really need that many to have a full gun. I had to take ones off my other guns, but I was lucky because I had two older N-Strike guns and both of these came with two clips which are exactly the same as the Elite clips. Also my Mom bought be an 18 dart clip thinking it was the right one for this gun. It wasn't as all the other clips are smaller, but I can use it on my N-Strike. My opinion: On the one hand I feel this is overpriced considering the fact that you need so many extras to really use this. I agree with my son - this really should have had all six clips - even if it cost a few pound more. Having to pay over £20 for the two extra clips is really excessive and I am removing one star for this. Although I think the clips should be include _ I would not have rated down if the price on refills was not so high. I do not feel that two extra clips should cost almost as much as the whole gun with 4 clips. However my son would happily give this 5 stars. Despite my issues with the price of extra clips, and my overall feeling towards Nerf, I have to admit that I am very happy with my purchase. My son love sit and seeing him happy is the most important thing. The best thing about this gun is that it does work properly, no jammed guns and shredded darts. I like the fact that I can use AA batteries instead as these are far less expensive. I would still recommend this gun, especially if you have other guns with these clips ( N-Strike). If you do not have other clips already though, be prepared to cough up quite a bit more to complete this gun - and do not expect to be able to fire 144 darts unless you have a lot of money to spend on larger clips.
